Dog Areas in Hi-Nella

1 Park

This tiny community of fewer than a thousand residents has the tree-lined streets and sidewalks a person conjures up when they hear the words "small town". It is a tight-knit community.  The center of the community is the dedicated space to fallen veterans.  A brick walkway to the marker and flag hearkens to the patriotism in so many small towns.

People with a four-legged family member will have to go to the surrounding larger communities for routine and emergency care.  Such care and even more specialized veterinary services can be found within a fifteen-mile radius of the borough.  Philadelphia, with all of its big-city services, including veterinary care, is less than fifteen miles west of Hi-Nella.

In addition, nearby communities satisfy all the outdoor recreational needs of a person and pup.  Strafford Woods Trail is located five miles east in Voorhees Township.  A 0.65-mile trail winds through a canopy of large trees and across big green meadows. Benches here and there along the way give a weary hiker a chance to stop and take a breather.

In Mount Ephraim -- just six miles east of Hi-Nella -- is Shining Star Park.  This little gem of a park has open green spaces, a decorative gazebo, plenty of benches, and a walking path.  The walking path is paved and makes for an easy stroll for outdoor exercise with your leashed pup.  Ten miles north in Cherry Hill is the Downs Farm Trail.  This well-marked earthen trail offers you and your pup a secluded hiking experience.  This easy walk in the woods has some dense forest and takes a hiker past a small pond and across creeks.

Voorhees is located five miles east of Hi-Nella.  Connolly Dog Park has a place for your pup to get some great exercise and play free of a leash. This pawtastic pooch play area features two enclosures for pups to make a few new furry friends. One section is set aside for the smaller pups for safer socialization.  A water fountain in the park keeps all visitors hydrated -- no need to go anywhere to refresh a water bottle.  The human folk welcome the numerous shaded benches and picnic tables. There's never an absence of toys left around the dog park. A good throw of a frisbee or a neon green tennis ball encourages even better exercise.

Blackwood is just a five-mile journey to the south of Hi-Nella.  Timber Creek Dog Park is an extra special place to put some waggle back into your pup's wiggle!  This dog park has nine completely fenced acres for off-leash exercise and fun.  The ground here is all-natural with trees throughout it. There's a single area for all sizes of dogs to play, so it's important that pups are well-socialized so all pups have a good -- and safe -- time. The swimming hole in the main park can't be missed.  A hot summer day will find plenty of pups enjoying this bonus amenity. Numerous hiking paths in the main park offer people the opportunity to get out and stretch with their four-legged (leashed) pal.

You and your pup will enjoy a thirteen-mile trip west of Hi-Nella to the Queen Village neighborhood in Philadelphia.  Mario Lanza Dog Park gives your canine companion a chance to shake off some in-house boredom for some leash-free fun.  This dog park is a fully fenced enclosure for socialization and play.  All dogs socialize within the confines of this mostly dirt dog park.  Many large trees with benches and picnic tables make this park a great stop on a trip to the big city.  You and your furry friend will find water fountains within the dog park. Outdoor lighting makes this a perfect stop for that after-work stretch.

Fishtown is sixteen miles north of Hi-Nella -- a short journey to some outdoor play with some four-legged pals! Triangle Dog Park is the place to stop when in Philly. This triangular slice of urban ground is dedicated for off-leash exercise. The dog park is open late so you can play even if you're stuck on second shift. The surface here is a mixture of mulch, dirt, and gravel.  Mud can be a problem after a rain. The dog park is double-gated for safer entry and exit.  Dogs should be well-socialized because dogs of all sizes play in one area here. Bring water!  No running water is available on-site.  It is the custom to bring some to share.  Water bowls are always available, though.  Toys, like balls and frisbees, are left there for all to use. Local people maintain the dog park, and everyone is encouraged to help keep it clean.

Fitler Square is located sixteen miles northwest of Hi-Nella. Schuylkill River Dog Park is the urban pup playground. The adventure starts with a double-gated entry into one of two enclosures.  One area is reserved for small dog play.  The surface of this dog park is primarily synthetic turf.  However, it is landscaped, and trees within the park add beauty and shade.  Water fountains and a hose make this a convenient location for some off-leash exercise.  Waste stations provide environmentally friendly waste baggies.  This dog park can get crowded at times -- your pup will surely meet a new furry buddy or two! The central park area has picnic tables situated on the river for an outdoor lunch or peaceful resting spot.
