Sitting on the northern fringes of the Ozark Plateau and adjacent to the Missouri River lies Jefferson City. This centrally located principal city of the state of Missouri is also close to the Missouri Rhineland, one of the largest wine-producing regions in the Midwest. Notable is the Missouri State Capitol building that overlooks the city from a bluff.
The state of Missouri, surprising to some, even the locals, is known for its large dog populace in comparison to other states in the United States. 45.9% of the families in Missouri have been extended with at least one canine companion. Naturally, this means that there are a lot of dogs in Jefferson City as well.
To cater to the high number of dog owners in Jefferson City, the city council has agreed to the construction of an off-leash dog park. Entrance to the North Jefferson Dog Park is only 12 dollars per dog per year. The park is a great way for dogs to get their much-needed exercise. As the dog park is completely fenced, the leash can be taken off once the dog has passed the gate.
The Jefferson City Memorial Park offers another opportunity for dogs and the rest of the family. This recreational park has something to suit everyone. The hiking trails that cross through the park are in particular well suited for dog owners. Please be aware that, unlike the off-leash dog park, dogs have to be on a leash at all times in the Memorial Park of Jefferson City.

It can also turn into a nice early morning stroll if your dog likes waking you up for their early morning walk.
