Fickel Hill
The Arcata Community Forest is a great place to take your pup hiking and exploring. The trails will take you through the forest and redwoods, and gives you the perfect spot away from traffic and the town. The trails and forest are popular among other hikers and mountain bikes, plus you can take your pup off leash while you explore. If Fido isn't in the mood to hike, check out the Redwood Park, which features a large grassy area where you pup can get a game of fetch in. Located in Arcata, and only eight miles out of Blue Lake, your pup will love exploring these two parks with you.36

If Fido is itching to check out a new park, head into Arcata to the Chevret-Vaissafe Park. This park offers a playground, basketball courts, and a few picnic tables. There is a nice, paved walking trail that goes throughout the park, so you and your pup can get a good walk in together. Your pup can play a good game of fetch or get some grass rolling in on the wide section of grass that the park offers. This park is also fenced in for added piece of mind if your pup is a runner!24

This 2,100-acre forest offers numerous trails that you and your pup can explore together, all underneath some beautiful redwoods that will keep you shaded along your journey. You may pass a creek in the forest, perfect for your pup to get some splashing in before continuing your adventure. Make sure to keep an eye on Fido, since there is some natural wildlife in this forest, which includes bears. Only eleven miles out of Blue Lake in Bayside, your dog will love walking through this beautiful forest with you.

Get a nice walk in with your pup by your side at Hiller Park. The park features a baseball diamond, hiking trails that lead to the river, a playground, a large open grass area, and a great view of the ocean. The park also offers a fenced in dog park where Fido can run around off leash and meet some new friends. The dog park is large and offers doggie water fountains so your pup can stay hydrated while you play. Located in McKinleyville, and only eleven miles out of Blue Lake, your dog will love coming to this park with you.

With an outdoor patio that is dog friendly, your pup will be feeling at home in this restaurant. After a delicious meal, get a good walk in throughout Shay Park. The park offers a playground, and a nice walking path throughout some redwood trees. You will even come across a small creek when wandering around this pawsome park.
