Lassen National Forest
The Lassen National Forest is just under 12 miles from Burney and is an excellent spot for dogs and their owners to enjoy some outdoor recreation. Your pooch can join you in most areas of the park, which is a haven for just about any outdoor activity, like hiking, fishing, hunting, and even skiing in the winter. You can choose from one of several dog-friendly trails of mild to difficult challenge levels, many of which will lead you to beautiful views of the forest, mountains, and water. Right outside the forest is JJ’s Café, a casual dining spot with dog-friendly outdoor tables.

Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park
Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park is a little under 28 miles from Burney and is another pawtastic place to bring your outdoor-loving dog for a day trip or getaway. The park is loaded with streams, lakes, ponds, and other water features for a picturesque, relaxing excursion, but you and your pup can also get plenty of bonding time and exercise on the several hiking trails or even on a geocaching adventure. Boat ramps are available, too, so you can get Sparky out on the water! You can also get access to Horr Pond outside of the park for fishing or boating with your pup.

Park Marina Village
Just under 54 miles from Burney is Park Marina Village, a neighborhood in Redding, CA. This water-surrounded neighborhood is furrific for water-loving families since it sits right on the Sacramento River. It’s also only minutes away from Downtown Redding, which has several dog-friendly restaurants to offer. Park Marina Village is home to Turtle Bay East Park, which expands about 80 acres and has plenty of open space for dogs. Although not an official dog park, many people bring their pups here to run and play. You can also check out Famous Daves, a dog-friendly restaurant that serves casual meals with big, bold flavors.

Benton
Benton is another Redding neighborhood that’s about 55 miles from Burney and minutes away from Downtown. This residential area is next to the Benton Airpark and includes the Benton Dog Park, an off-leash space for dogs to get exercise while making some new friends. The park includes separate areas for small and large pups to play safely. You can also explore the Blue Gravel Mine Trail, which offers pretty views of the Cascade Mountains. Looking for a spot to eat with Max? Burrito Bandito, a quick and casual Mexican restaurant, is close by and has outdoor seating for furry paws.
Ream Ave
If you’re up for a drive, you might want to consider heading to the Ream Ave area of Mt. Shasta, which is about 62 miles from Burney. This is a great place to stop with your pooch if you’re heading north into Oregon, as it has several dog-friendly hotels and restaurants. The Ream Ave area is in the heart of Mt. Shasta near grocery stores and shops. Dos Geckos is a pupular spot to bring your dog, with its outdoor seating and Mexican-inspired dishes. Mount Shasta Pastry is pawfect for a sweet treat and also has outside tables for pups and their owners.
