Sunnyvale breaks the top 50 list as the 38th most populated city in California, and it is well-known for being part of Silicon Valley and the home of Yahoo! as well as many other iconic companies. Sunnyvale is close to the Pacific Ocean, Lake Tahoe, and Redwood Forests; and the temperatures usually never dip below 50 degrees so be sure to leave the coat at home. It should also be known for its love of dogs because there are an estimated 30,000 dogs living in Sunnyvale at one time.
Stevens Creek Park is a great hiking spot and has many trails in a variety of lengths and skill levels. Some roam along the Stevens Creek Reservoir and through the Redwoods, and some take you up on the bluffs that have an amazing view of Silicon Valley. You and Fido will probably see some critters like deer, squirrels, chipmunks, and many species of birds. Along the journey, you'll be sure to see a wide range of flower, foliage, and trees. In the park, you can do some fishing, have a picnic, or just hang out and enjoy the view.
Black Mountain is a bit steep, but if you are an experienced hiker and make it to the top (2,450 feet), the view is like no other. This 10-mile trail is wooded with oak, buckeye, chaparral, and other shrubbery. You may see some deer, foxes, coyote, and even bobcats along the way, but if the trail is busy that day you probably will not see as much. Try to hang back away from the crowd if you want to see some animals because this is a popular trail.
