So, if you are looking to spend more time with Fido than just your typical dog park venture, San Jose is home to numerous activities that accommodate your four-legged best friend.

True to the name of the city, Sunnyvale has the perfect sunny park for your dog to romp and play in. Only a 20-minute commute from Alum Rock, Sunnyvale’s dog park has a high rating amongst park-goers. Las Palmas Dog Park offers a variety of balls and frisbees to play with, waste bags for easy cleanup, as well as water and bowls for thirsty pups. The park is fenced-in with a spacious field for you dog to make new friends while providing your dog with new places to sniff. With ample toys to go around, Las Palmas is known for a fair few games of fetch and ball.

Fremont

Fremont is home to several dog parks, dog-friendly lakes, and, oddly enough, a hardware store. Fremont is 25 minutes from Alum Rock, and is one of the most dog-friendly local cities. With two parks that are waterfront, water-loving dogs are in paradise here. Lake Elizabeth boasts a public park with areas for barbequing, picnics, and sports – which can all be enjoyed while having the most spectacular view of the water. Fido is welcome to join you here on-leash, or at the local dog parks for some off-leash romping. Lone Tree Creek Park is one of the most scenic dog parks in Fremont, but don’t worry-- there’s more than one tree at this beautiful destination!

Campbell is only 15 minutes from Alum Rock, making this city a beautiful destination to take Fido to.  Los Gatos Creek County Park welcomes all dogs to come frolic in its fenced-in field, and is rated highly for dog-friendliness. Separate areas are provided to keep small dogs and big dogs apart for safe play. Waste bags, scoopers, and water are doggy luxuries provided by the park. Shaded areas and benches are provided for on-looking pet parents to keep a comfortable eye on their fur baby. The large, grassy area is perfect for a few games of fetch, tug-of-war, and frisbee! 

Palo Alto

Palo Alto

Palo Alto has multiple dog parks to choose from, as well as a nature preserve to take your dog to. The Baylands Nature Preserve has a beautiful mountain backdrop with over a thousand acres of undisturbed marshland. Multiple trails are available here for you to walk, with up to 15 miles of trail to choose from. Whether you and your dog are experienced hikers or are beginner hikers with a love for the great outdoors, Palo Alto has a trail to satisfy every need. Specific areas are designated for dogs to be off-leash, but otherwise dogs are asked to remain by your side leashed. Locals consider Palo Alto the perfect spot for bird watching as well as mediation.
