Turlock, California is a bustling city in the state's Central Valley. Located close to the San Francisco Bay area and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Turlock is also home to a mass of cultural events, parks, and schools. Full of pet-lovers, Turlock also offers many opportunities to get out and explore with your four-legged friend.
If you're looking for a dog park, you have several choices, including the newly-built Swanson Centennial Dog Park. This large play area has fences, trees for shade, and a water fountain. Quite popular in the area, it's not uncommon to see the park filled with dogs and owners looking to enjoy the beautiful California sunshine.
Another option is the Turlock Dog Park, also called the Sunnyview Dog Park. Off-leash dogs are welcome in the fenced-in sections (one for small dogs, and one for large dogs). This park has a more peaceful, secluded location, and locals often report seeing no other dogs or people during daytime visits.
Several dog-approved hiking trails are close to the Turlock area. With both paved and un-paved sections, the Dry Creek Trail gives dogs the chance to explore flora and fauna in the heart of the valley. Featuring a small creek, this trail was once an old railway line, now converted to a walkable trail as part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy program. Another rail-to-trail option in the area is the Modesto Virginia Corridor, which is less rural than the Dry Creek Trail, but offers access to retail establishments and residential neighborhoods.
