Deep River
Deep River is a town which lies to the northwest of Centerbook. Take your fur-iendly friend to Plattwood Park for some water fun! You and Fido can relax on the banks of Shorham Wading River, which meanders through the park, fish, or get your feet wet! There is a playground for the kiddies, picnic tables, grassy areas and a pond to enjoy. When you get hungry, head over to The Ivory Restaurant and Pub which offers dog-friendly dining on their outdoor patio tables. Check out the live music on Fridays and Saturdays which is sure to get your pup’s tail a-waggin!

Old Lyme
Take your pup to the waterfront community of Old Lyme, a town southeast of Centerbrook. Ferry Landing State Park is where you can fish or do some crabbing, and is also a great place for birdwatching, so bring a camera. For a relaxing day, head to the Town Woods Park which has a playground and amazing fields to let Fido stretch his legs. Or try Hains Park where you can swim, relax on park benches, or shoot some hoops. It’s a pawtastic place to pack a picnic lunch! You can find restrooms at all locations, but keep Fifi on leash and bring mutt mitts.

Old Saybrook
Old Saybrook is a town south of Centerbook which offers many dog-friendly outdoor activities. Fort Saybrook Monument Park is a 17-acre park with a boardwalk and is a perfect bird-watching spot! Or head to Clark Community Park with its whopping 180 acres of open space to take your pup hiking. Don’t let the big one get away while relaxing at Crystal Lake here. There are picnic tables and a playground available here. Finally, the Ferry Point Marsh Wildlife Area and South Cove Wildlife Areas both are canoeing spots if you have a water pup. Hungry yet? Liv’s Oyster Bar is dog-friendly and housed in a circa 1930’s cinema.

Essex Village
Ready for some fun with your fur-ever friend? Head to Essex Village in the town of Essex, alongside Centerbrook. Dickinson Park’s beautiful rock walls and iron gates surround this quaint park which makes it a perfect place to relax. Main Street Park lies on the waterfront and is home to the summer’s farmers market and local craft fairs. Head to Sunset pond to see remote-control boat races in summer and ice skating in winter. Pack a picnic and head to the Grove Street park to stroll on its tree-lined walking trail. All parks have leash laws, portable toilets or restrooms, and water available.

Ivorytown
Ivorytown is a village in Essex next to Centerbrook where you will find three great parks to visit with your pup. The Ivoryton Green Park with its grassy areas for lounging, picnic tables and fantastic summer concerts, with have your dog wagging that tail! Head to Clark’s Pond for some great fishing off the dock, or how about trying ice skating on the winter’s frozen pond? Want some open space to roam? Comstock Fields is the place for your leashed pup to stretch his legs on the multipurpose sports fields. Any of these lovely parks are perfect for a pup-tastic picnic to share, and they each have porta-potties and water available on-site.
