Pups and their parents love living in sunny DeBary! Nicknamed "The River City", this quaint locale is sandwiched between Seminole State Forest and Lake Monroe, which means pooches have plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure here. DeBary is also home to a highly-rated animal clinic, which will take good care of your dog in case of accident or emergency.
Need a place to rest your heads while you're here? Head to Highbanks Marina and Campresort, which welcomes canine guests for a small fee. If you want to grab a bite to eat and enjoy the warm Florida weather along with your four-legged buddy, you can visit the Swamp House Riverfront Grill, Genuine Bistro & Lounge, or Anthony's Pizza and Italian Restaurant. Leashes and good behavior are required at all establishments.
While you are in DeBary, you absolutely have to visit Blue Spring State Park, which is just 9 miles outside of town. Dogs are allowed almost everywhere on-leash, and there's no extra fee for bringing your pup to play. Make sure to pay close attention to posts and signs, as there are certain areas of the park where dogs aren't allowed.
Gemini Springs Dog Park is the only place in DeBary where you can take your dog for some mutts-needed off-leash playtime! This furrific dog park is located in South DeBary, in Gemini Springs Park. This 4.5-acre park is properly fenced so you can relax and let your pooch have fun! For even more safety, the park has two separate areas: one for small pups under 25 lbs., and another one for pups larger than 25 lbs. This park has all the amenities you'd expect from a great dog park, including doggie water fountains, dog wash stations, shaded areas, benches and picnic tables!
Around 19 miles south of DeBary is another place that you simply must add to your doggy to-do list! Head to Wekiva Island to treat yourself and your precious pooch to a beach day. The place is very dog-friendly and pawsitively loved by locals, but doggos have to be kept on-leash. However, some people do let their dogs run free, so use your best judgment. There is often live music playing, as well as a great atmosphere with lots of dogs. You can go kayaking or canoeing, or just sit back, relax and eat some snacks from the food vendors. It is a very beautiful spot for friends, family, and pups that love to swim!
Barkley Square Dog Park is yet another fun place for you and your canine friend. It is located around 15 miles north of DeBary, in West DeLand. The park is pretty large, around 14 acres, and it includes multiple areas for different pups. It has small dog area, a large dog area, a training area, and time-out areas. The park is rich with many trees that provide shade throughout, and the park even has a small pond in the large dog area where doggies can make a splash on a summer day! This free, public park also includes benches, watering stations, parking, and restrooms.
Closer than the previous places to DeBary is the Paw Park of Historic Sanford, located just 7 miles away from DeBary. Your pooch is sure to fall head over paws for this park, which has been voted as one of the Top 10 Best Dog Parks in the United States! It is fully fenced and has separate areas for small and large doggos. It also has has self-filling water bowls, dog showers, bag dispensers, and waste stations. The park is even more protected with a double-gate entrance system, and inside, there are benches for the human companions. This is a very clean park, so make sure to clean up after Fido to help keep this park one of the nation's best!
Longwood Arbor Dog Park is another great place to play off-leash. This fenced park is located approximately 15 miles away, but your pooch will beg you to make the trip. The park has small and large dog areas, and both areas include water fountains for thirsty pups. The park is mostly under shade, so it’s perfect for the hot summer days. There is even a shaded parking in the vicinity and multiple benches for the human visitors. The park is close to a small wooded lake, so there are a lot of mosquitoes there. Make sure you bring bug spray and protect yourself!
