A city with a relaxing, small town vibe, Orange City is hospitable and charming, and offers up both urban and rural activities. With numerous parks, two veterinary clinics, and several dog-friendly restaurants and hotels to choose from, this is a city that is truly welcoming to both humans and canines.
The public parks in Orange City provide some great dog walking spots, with one of the most popular being Mill Lake Park, which is also one of the newest parks in the city. Complete with a splash pad, picnic pavilions, lake views and a one mile paved walking path, your pooch will love this action-packed park. Other parks worth checking out include the Oak Avenue Park, which is known for being quite the botanical haven, and Valentine Park, which is home to sports facilities, a playground, picnic pavilions, grills and a nature trail.
If your pooch would prefer an off-lead run, Orange City is also home to the Waggin' Trail Dog Park. This fenced-off dog park features separate areas for small and large dogs, as well as shade structures and benches for owners to socialize, but you will need to bring your own doggie bags and drinking water.
For pups who enjoy restaurant meals, give one of Orange City's dog-friendly restaurants a try. Five Guys serves up burgers, hot dogs and more, while the Red Roof Café has a picturesque outdoor courtyard where dogs can dine with their owners.
With so much for you and your dog to see and do, Orange City is a destination that will definitely not disappoint.
There are quite a few dog-friendly businesses in Volusia, making this a great neighborhood to spend a few hours with your pooch. Tropi Shack is a popular spot for dog owners to grab a bite to eat with their pets, as this dog-friendly restaurant has outdoor picnic tables at which your pooch can enjoy everything from Cuban sandwiches to thick shakes with you. If you need somewhere to stay nearby, there are a couple of options in this neighborhood, such as the scenic Clark Family Campground, complete with a pond lined with mature trees. If you would prefer a hotel, the Days Inn Orange City Deland is nearby, and welcomes two dogs per guest room for a small additional fee.
Your dog will love the DeBary neighborhood of Blue Springs Landing/ Fatio, as this is where you will find the Blue Spring State Park, which covers an area of more than 2600 acres. This park is actually a manatee refuge, and from November to March, several hundred West Indian Manatees call this park home. If you and Fido want to watch the manatees, the Blue Spring State Park Boardwalk is the area to head to. If you would prefer a hike through the wilderness, give the 7.3 mile Pine Island Trail a try, but remember that you will need to keep your dog on a lead at all times.
Just over two miles from Orange City is a neighborhood in DeBary called The Vista's, and this is the place to go if your pooch could do with an off-lead run. The Vista's is where you will find the 210 acre Gemini Springs Park, which is not only home to two springs, playgrounds, and picnic areas, but also to the fully fenced-off Gemini Springs Dog Park. At 4.5 acres in size, this is quite a large dog park, and features separate areas for smaller and larger dogs. There are dog washing stations, doggie water fountains and picnic benches dotted throughout the park, but you will still need to bring your own doggie bags with you.
About three miles from Orange City lies the Howland Blvd/ E Graves Ave neighborhood of Deltona, where you will find another pawsome dog park for your pooch to play and socialize in. This park is known as the Keysville Dog Park, and boasts an impressive 14 acres of greenery for you and your pup to explore. There are separate fenced-off areas here for small and large dogs, as well as an extra fenced section with doggie watering stations. Outside of the dog runs, but still within the grounds of the dog park, are even more facilities, including sports fields, restrooms and a walking path.
It takes about seven minutes to drive from Orange City to the Deltona neighborhood of Elkcam Blvd/ Howland Blvd, but the drive is worth it since it will take you to the 360 acre Lyonia Preserve. This preserve is famous for being home to the threatened Florida scrub-jay, and also boasts a wide range of other wildlife species. There are just over two miles of walking trails that you and Fido can explore here, and these loop their way around the park, encompassing the preserve's highest point, meaning that you will be rewarded with some incredible views. Since there is a high concentration of important plant and animal life living within the preserve, make sure that you keep Fido on a lead at all times.
