A 7-mile jaunt from Auburn, Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, Georgia, is comprised of a vast wonderland of nature trails for Fido and friends to explore. Dogs enjoying this park are required to be kept on a lead that is 6 feet in length or less. Access to swimming facilities, historic properties, and some camping areas is restricted to people only; however, the park does offer pet-friendly cottage rentals if booked in advance and for an additional fee. With over 20 miles of trails to discover, Fort Yargo State Park offers a fun hiking adventure for the entire family.

Buford Dam

This dog-friendly camping facility is situated 21 miles from Auburn in the Buford Dam area of Cumming. This pristine natural beauty is home to picturesque scenery and is renowned for its lake with turquoise-hued waters. There are many recreational activities for families to choose from, including various water sports, fishing, and hiking. The Sawnee Campground also lies near the scenic Westbank Overlook and only a short drive from the Sawnee Mountain Preserve, an ideal spot for viewing wildlife in its natural habitat. 4.6 miles away from Auburn lies Dacula, Georgia, home to the much beloved dedicated dog facility known as Rabbit Hill Dog Park. Rabbit Hill Dog Park provides a well-shaded fenced space for dogs to enjoy some recreational play space. Dog owners give it high marks for its separate designated enclosures for large and small dogs and additional enclosure specified for dogs who like to run to burn off some energy. Also included at this dog park are grass and sand play areas and on-site agility equipment. Water is provided on site to help keep Fido well-hydrated during his play time at the park. Fido can enjoy off-leash play during his time in the play areas but must remain on lead when traveling to and from the dog park itself.
