Dog Walking in Kahuku

With a population of just over 2,500, Kahuku is a quiet community in northern Honolulu County, Hawaii. Because of its isolated location, there aren’t many amenities available for dogs and their owners other than about seven veterinarians available within twenty-five miles. However, if you’re willing to take a drive, Honolulu County has a lot to offer!

Up for a walk? Head on over to Kapa‘ele‘ele Ko’a Trail, just thirty minutes south of Kahuku in Kaneohe, HI. Nestled in the Ahupuaʻa ʻO Kahana State Park, this one-mile walking path offers historic (and scenic) views. Your dog must be leashed, but plenty of shade and fantastic photo opportunities await you on this trail -- just don’t forget to bring water!

If you’re in the mood for a park, drive thirty miles south of Kahuku to Kailua, HI. Leashed pups are welcome on the white sand beaches of Kailua Beach Park; just make sure your dog’s license tag is clearly visible, and you’re good to go. Tucked away in residential Kailua is Kalama Dog Park, which is complete with water fountains and human bathroom amenities. The park is essentially a large, open, fenceless field -- so as long as you keep an eye on Fido, he’s free to romp and play!

No matter where you go in Kahuku’s neighboring community, you and your best furry friend are guaranteed scenic views, quality time, and a pawesome local experience.
