Dog Areas in Kaneohe

The area of Kaneohe, Hawaii, was once a rich agricultural area. The abundance of rainfall in the Kaneohe region was paramount for the growth of crops. This has, however, changed and nowadays Kaneohe is, for the most part, a modern city with all the niceties and conveniences one comes to expect, including various amenities for pet owners.

Kaneohe has not turned into a concrete jungle overnight, and there are still plenty of places to enjoy a stroll through nature. For people with dogs, the best way to do so is to plan a visit to the Ahupua'a O Kahana State Park and follow the Kapa'ele'ele Trail. The 1.2-mile hiking trail offers amazing views of the Kahana Bay and goes past various historical sites. Dogs have to be leashed, and owners have to make sure to bring plenty of water with them.

Dog lovers can travel to the Kalama Dog Park, located in Kailua, for an off-leash dog experience. This basic park has all the necessities required for an off-leash dog park including a water fountain. As the park is hidden in a residential area, it can be a challenge to find.

The Windward Dog Park Organization was founded to raise funds for an off-leash dog park closer to Kaneohe, Hawaii. The planned park sports two play areas, one for small dogs and one for large dogs, a gated entrance, and a comfort station. The aimed location for the dog park is next to the Bay View Golf Park.
