Known for its beautiful lakes and outdoor activities, Spirit Lake is just a little over three hours north of Des Moines. Residents and visitors take advantage of the pup-friendly parks to enjoy exercise, fresh air, and amazing scenery. Whether you live in Spirit Lake full time or you are visiting the Lakes, Fido will be able to find quality veterinary care. There are four vet clinics in town offering emergency care and routine appointments.

With a variety of pup-friendly parks to choose from, take your pooch for a walk over to the Little League Park. There are shelters where you can enjoy a picnic and wide-open fields where Fido can run and play. Kids will love the playground and you can dispose of doggie waste bags at the handicap-accessible restrooms.

You might also want to spend some time at the Bob Allen Park. This is a newer park and features an easily accessible bike trail where you and your pup can get some exercise.

If you are out with the kids and need a snack, Hey Good Cookies offers pup-friendly outdoor tables where you can try out some homemade cookies, coffee, or ice cream. Pup parents who need a great place to stay while visiting should check out the Super 8 motels. The motel accepts pets of any size for an additional fee.

When planning a vacation to the Iowa Great Lakes, or searching for a fun and Fido-friendly place to call home, you will not be disappointed with the outdoor activities available in Spirit Lake.
