City Center
Gilbert Park on Hill Avenue features 5 acres of space to run with your energetic pup. Situated along East Lake Okoboji, you can walk around the water with your pooch while the kids hang out at the playground. There are picnic tables where you can enjoy a snack with Fido, or relax on one of the shaded benches and watch the activities on the water while your pup rolls around in the grass. While in the area, you can also head over to the Great Lakes Spine Trail with access from Lincoln Avenue. The paved trail travels over 14 miles and is perfect when you need some exercise with your pup and the family.

East Lake Okoboji
When you are spending time in the East Lake Okoboji neighborhood, stop by Memorial Park on Lake St. You can stroll around the green space with your pooch, and the kids can play on the playground. Dispose of doggie waste bags at the trash receptacles near the bathrooms. Just a few blocks away, spend some time at the Elinor Bedell State Park. There is a camping area where you and your pup can pitch a tent, but you will need to keep Fido on a leash. There is a playground for the kids and plenty of grassy areas to walk your pooch before bed.

West Spirit Lake
Fido’s favorite destination in Spirit Lake will be the Lakes Area Dog Park. The large fenced area is free and open to the public, offering separate spaces for large dogs and smaller pups. The park is well maintained, so be sure to use the doggie waste bags provided to clean up. There is a water fountain for the pups and agility equipment and toys for the dogs to play with. Fido will have a furtastic time socializing with friends while pup parents chat on one of the shaded benches. After spending time at the dog park, head over to Pikes Point State Park where you can pack a picnic lunch and invite friends and their furry family members for some fun. The beach will entertain the kids and you can walk around the area with your pup.

Center Lake Drive
Camping in Spirit Lake is a pup-ular activity for residents and visitors. Plan to pitch a tent or bring your RV to the Cenla Campgrounds where you and Fido can enjoy the great outdoors. There are clean restrooms and an open field where you and your pooch can play. The swimming pool will keep the kids entertained and you will need to keep your pup on a leash while walking around the campground. The picnic tables are perfect for a BBQ with friends and their furry family members and you can even buy snacks at the camp store.
North Spirit Lake
In the northern section of Spirit Lake, Mini-Waken State Park is great if you are looking for a little history. Keep your pup on a leash while walking through the park, as there may be an archeological dig going on looking for artifacts from the Native American Middle Woodland period. There is a boat dock where you and Fido can launch your canoe or kayak and the shaded picnic tables are perfect when you need to rest. After strolling along the lake with Fido, take a break and catch some fish or just watch the water activities and enjoy the fresh air.
