Hi pet parents! I'm Samantha and I am originally from Florida. I am a graduate student at Loyola and will be walking all over Libertyville and the surrounding suburbs, and in Wicker Park and Gold Coast on my class days! I have a 10 year old Shar Peri and a 5 year old chihuahua and have volunteered at least 5000 hours at the SPCA in the past 5 years. Can't wait to see your best friend's tail wag on our walks!
Dog lovers are found all over the beautiful village of Libertyville, which is located near Lake Michigan and the Des Plaines River in Illinois. Resident dogs and their families often spend time walking the trails along the river or Butler Lake, Liberty Lake or Lake Minear. When planning an outdoor adventure for the family, head over to the MacArthur Woods Forest Preserve. The running trails are perfect for a long walk with your pup, and the shade trees keep both of you from getting overheated. You will want to bring your own water bottles and doggie waste bags to keep the trails clean.
Finding both emergency and routine care for your pup is easy in Libertyville. There are three well-staffed clinics here that are dedicated to taking care of all your pup’s needs for an affordable price. If you find out Fido has allergies, check out Bentley’s Pet Stuff pet store where the owner will work with you to find the right food and the store offers pup toys and treats that will make your pooch feel furtastic.
Furry family members love to travel with the family. If you are searching for a pup-friendly hotel, consider Candlewood Suites, where up to two pets can stay for an additional fee. The Motel 6 allows pups for no additional fee. When you need a bite to eat, you and your pooch will love Egg Harbor Café which specializes in gourmet breakfast and lunch and offers shaded outdoor seating.
Butler Park in the Interlaken Butler Park neighborhood offers 58-acres of open spaces and athletic fields. You and Fido can spend a day walking around the lake along the paths. There are water fountains available to fill up your water bottles, but be sure to bring your own doggie waste bags to clean up after your pup. If Fido is feeling hungry, head over to 545 North Bar and Grill where you can sit at one of 15 outdoor tables and enjoy soup, salad or sandwiches. The friendly staff will even bring your pooch a bowl and some cool water on a warm day.
Member-supported Lake Minear Beach Park in this neighborhood offers swimming in the summer and fishing all year-round. When you and Fido are looking for some quality time together, you can head over to the park to spend the day. Picnic tables offer a great place to relax, and you can even get a snack at the concession stand during the summer. Fido will need to be kept on his leash, but you will be sure to find other canine lovers out for the day with their furry family members. Pups and their parents will also enjoy Adler Memorial Park in the same neighborhood. Friends can play a quick game of disc golf while the pooches sniff butts and relax under the trees.
Liberty Prairie Nature Preserve in the Liberty Prairie neighborhood features hiking trails that are perfect for a day with Fido. With plenty of open space, the park was created to offer people and dog lovers a sanctuary in the city. The trails are well maintained, but they do require some climbing. If your pooch loves to climb and explore nature, he will love this park, so bring your water bottles and doggie waste bags. After a day of exercise, head over to Ganello’s Pizza Company, where you can dine on a variety of Italian cuisine and find a seat at one of the pup-friendly outdoor tables. If you prefer steaks or chops, take your pup to Jimmy’s Charhouse and relax at one of the tables on the patio.
Situated in the Northern Libertyville neighborhood, Paul M Neal Park was created for the local community. Although the park is small, Fido can run around and frolic in the grass while sniffing out the perfect place to do his business. You will need to bring your own doggie waste bags and some water bottles when you need a cool drink. Another great place to walk your pup is Gilbert Stiles Park. Children can climb on the playground equipment while pups walk along the nearby trail. There are also picnic tables where you and your canine companion can enjoy a break and a snack.
