Westchester, Illinois might be a bit more cat-friendly than dog-friendly, since its only vet clinic in town caters toward felines. But, that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck if you own a dog, because there are plenty of places near Westchester that are just a short drive away.

For starters, Chicago is just about 13 miles from Westchester, and the city is chock full of pawtastic things for your pooch! Montrose Dog Beach is one of them, providing you and your pup with a spacious area of sand and water, all for no admission! You can also hop on a Seadog cruise with Fido, which offers several types of cruises around Chicago, most of which are dog-friendly. You can even take an evening cruise for the best views of the Chicago skyline.

If you’re looking for places away from the city to enjoy with your dog, you can find plenty of them, too. Oak Park is a great place to stop. Here, you can tour the Ernest Hemingway Museum, play at the Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex Dog Park, or visit the Oak Park Conservatory to stop and smell the flowers. These attractions are just a hop, skip, and a bark away from Westchester!
