Georgetown

Georgetown

The Georgetown neighborhood of Georgetown is right next door to Groveland, and offers up some huge green areas for you and Fido to explore. The largest is the Georgetown-Rowley State Forest, which stretches out for 1112 acres. There are a few hiking trails to follow here, with the main Georgetown-Rowley State Forest Loop Trail extending out for 7.7 miles, and providing incredibly scenic views of the forest. Also in this neighborhood is the Baldpate Pond State Park, which, at over 100 acres in size, is pawtastic for a long dog walk. The pond is a popular fishing spot, and there is a trail that will take you and Fido around the pond.

West Newbury

West Newbury

Directly adjacent to Groveland is the West Newbury neighborhood in West Newbury, where you will find even more pawsome dog walks. The most popular hiking area here is the Mill Pond Recreation Area, where you will find an extensive network of connecting trails to explore. If your pooch enjoys the water, there is a designated area at the pond where dogs, and horses too, are allowed to wade in the water. Another pawriffic trail in the neighborhood can be found at Withers Conservation Area, which consists of 24 acres of natural beauty. The trail here is called the Artichoke Trail, and will take you past the Artichoke Reservoir before looping its way through the forest.

Golden Hill

Golden Hill

Less than a mile from Groveland is the neighborhood of Golden Hill in Haverhill, and although this may be quite a small neighborhood, it provides access to the beautiful Winnekenni Park, whose name actually means “very beautiful” in the Algonquin dialect. The park boasts more than 700 acres of hills and forests, with around 10 miles of hiking trails for you and Fido to explore. There are several interesting natural features within the park, as well as Winnekenni Castle, which dates back to the early 1800's. Although the park is pet friendly, you will need to make sure that you have a lead, doggie bags and drinking water for Fido with you.

Downtown Haverhill

Downtown Haverhill

If your pooch enjoys being wined and dined, then Downtown Haverhill in Haverhill is the neighborhood to head to. There are a couple of dog-friendly restaurants here that are extremely popular, starting with the Barking Dog Ale House. There are over 40 draft beers served here, along with some rare bottled beers, served up with an eclectic food menu. If you and your pup are in the mood for Mexican cuisine instead, then take a seat at Casa Blanca, which is open for both lunch and dinner. Not only is the authentic Mexican food a highlight here, but so are the freshly made margaritas.

Great Pond – Brooks

Great Pond – Brooks

The North Andover neighborhood of Great Pond – Brooks is about a mile from Groveland, and you and your pooch will find plenty to do here. Begin with a walk through the Mazurenko Farm Conservation Area, which sprawls out for 146 acres. Not only is this one of the best fishing spots in North Andover, but it is also a prime habitat for the great blue heron. There are plenty of other animals living here, from coyote to the red fox to whitetail deer, so make sure that you keep Fido on a lead at all times, and don't forget to bring doggie bags with you too.
