This neighborhood is home to Wheaton’s one off-leash dog run, Wheaton Dog Park. This pawesome dog park is located within Wheaton Regional Park, and it has one large, fenced-in field where dogs can play and make new friends. There are also plenty of benches where owners can sit and watch their dogs play. If your dog gets thirsty, there’s a seasonal water fountain available. After your dog is finished playing, put them back on their leash and take them for a walk on Wheaton Regional Park’s beautiful paved trails. These trails will take you through the woods and around scenic Pine Lake. Your pup will love sniffing around this park!

If you’re looking for a great place to take your dog for an on-leash walk, check out Wheaton Claridge Local Park. This pawesome park offers a network of natural surface trails. These trails will take you through a forest, past a stream, and around large fields. Bring water and doggy bags, and have a good time exploring this park. If you’re hungry after your walk, head to Pupuseria La Familiar. Sit at one of their ten dog-friendly outdoor tables, and dine on classic Salvadorian cuisine, including pupusas, carne asada, burritos, quesadillas, and much more. Bone Appetit!

This Bethesda neighborhood is home to another pawsitively wonderful off-leash area, Cabin John Dog Park. This park is nine miles from Wheaton, and it has two sections: one for large dogs and one for small dogs. Both sections are fully fenced and filled with trees that keep the park shady and cool, and there are fun boulders for your dog to climb on. Water and doggy bags are also available for your pup in the dog park. If you need a pick-me-up after the park, head to Corner Bakery Café. This casual restaurant allows dogs at their outdoor tables, and they offer classic breakfast and lunch fare, including omelets, pancakes, sandwiches, and soup.

Northeast Washington

Northeast Washington

Northeast Washington is home to the US National Arboretum, a furrific place to take your dog for an on-leash walk. Located 20 miles from Wheaton, this huge, 446-acre botanical garden and arboretum has tons of paved trails you can explore with your dog. These trails will take you past beautiful manicured gardens and groves of native trees. You’ll also get amazing views of the Anacostia River. You and your dog will both have a great time exploring this stunning area. After the arboretum, continue your fun day out with coffee and a pastry at Sidamo Coffee and Tea. This café welcomes dogs at their outdoor tables, and they’ll bring your dog a bowl of water.

If you’re looking for another fun-filled off-leash area for your pup, head to Maryland City Dog Park. This off-leash area is 19 miles from Wheaton, and it includes separate sections for large and small dogs to play in. Both sections are fully fenced, and they feature huge fields that your pup will love running through. As your dog plays, you can sit and watch from one of the park’s many benches. If your dog gets thirsty while they’re playing, water is available in the dog park. Bring a frisbee or tennis ball for your pup, and have a good time playing here.
