Chebeague Island, located in Casco Bay off the coast of Maine, is a quiet community with beaches and forested areas that dogs and their owners can explore together. From the island, you can take a 15-minute ferry ride west to Cousins Island, which is connected to the mainland by bridge. The nearest veterinary care is in Yarmouth, on the mainland.
Head over to Cousins Island on the ferry and take Talbot Road over to Littlejohn Island to access the Littlejohn Island Preserve. In this 23-acre natural area, you can hike the 1.3-mile loop with your pup. Dogs need to be kept on a leash while walking along the road, and they must always be under your control. Be respectful and pick up your pup's waste and carry it out with you.
Another nature trail that you and your furry friend can visit is in the Katherine Tinker Preserve on Cousins Island. Hike along the Tinker Trail through open fields that are surrounded by woods. Keep your canine companion under control and pick up any waste while visiting the area.
At the end of the Tinker Trail, you and your pooch connect to the trail in Camp Soci. Walk along the bay and take a break in the picnic area. This site is across the road from Sandy Point Beach at the northwest tip of Cousins Island.
Dogs and their owners will be able to find a variety of outdoor activities on Chebeague Island and in the surrounding areas.
