Nixa’s downtown area is centered around the intersection of Massey Boulevard and Mt Vernon Street, and it is a great place to explore with a furry friend. You two can head to the Parks and Recreation Center on Nixa Park Road; it has a walkable path around its playground and other facilities. You could also stop by The Gardens at Woodfield to the southwest, it is a park that has a half-mile hiking trail. You’ll also find a number of restaurants in the downtown area; a local favorite is Buckingham’s Barbecue, a local chain that serves American barbecue classics and has outdoor seating that can accommodate your dog.

North Nixa

North Nixa

The north side of Nixa is a welcoming suburban neighborhood that you can explore on foot with your canine companion. Head down the scenic McCauley Farm Road, and as you walk you can take in the beautiful Midwestern ambiance. You will find McCauley Park on this road; it is a park spanning over 40 acres so it’s hard to miss! The park has a paved, half-mile-long walking path that you can wander with your furry friend. The park has benches, restroom facilities, a playground, and even an 18-hole disc golf course. Just note that dogs are required to remain on-leash at McCauley Park.

Chesterfield Village

Chesterfield Village

Chesterfield Village is a Springfield neighborhood that is only a few minutes north of Nixa, and it is definitely worth visiting as it has many things you can do with your dog! You can head to Chesterfield Park in the center of the neighborhood for a walk around its paved paths that wind through green lawns covering over 40 acres. If that works up your appetite then you’re in luck, as there are some great restaurants nearby that have dog-friendly outdoor seating. Try Schultz & Dooley’s for American classics like burgers and wings, or head to Big Whiskey’s where you can eat surf and turf on their shaded patio!

If you are traveling through Nixa, consider taking a ten-mile trip north to the neighborhood of Greater Parkcrest in Springfield. You’ll find lots to do there, as it is a very dog-friendly area that offers many activities for people with pooches. Sanford Park, located on Franklin Avenue, is a small community park where you and your dog can take a stroll along its scenic walking path. If you’re hungry, you’ll find plenty of dining options in Parkcrest that can accommodate canine companions. The Grotto on Battlefield Road has casual American fare, and City Butcher & Barbecue has delicious Texas-style eats that are sure to fill you up.

Ravenwood is Springfield neighborhood that rests just northeast of Nixa, and it is definitely a place you’ll want to visit with your if you’re in the mood for a good meal! There are many restaurants throughout the neighborhood with outdoor seating that can accommodate dogs. For wholesome and nutritious organic food, you and your buddy can head to Metropolitan Farmer, a local restaurant that offers delicious dishes prepared with locally-sourced ingredients. They also welcome wagging tails at their outdoor tables. Living Memorial Park is nearby, and it is a great spot for an after-dinner walk!
