Dog Areas in Winchester, MO

1 Park

Winchester is a tiny municipality that is one of many to be found in St. Louis County. This charming town has access to just about any amenity a person with a pup could want. No veterinarians have set up shop in the city limits, but dozens can be found in the larger adjoining municipalities of Ballwin and Manchester. Winchester has one city park, Reber Park, which offers picnic spots and green areas.

People and their furry family members are just a four-mile drive away from escaping the confines of suburbia. Castlewood State Park has 1,818 acres of woods and wilderness for you and Fido to explore. This state park gives visitors access to the Meramec River for fishing and boating. Seven trails of lengths varying from two miles to almost seven can be found in this park. Most of these trails are rated as moderate in difficulty, with a couple rated as rugged.Several are dedicated to multi-use, so a hiker with a leashed dog is likely to encounter horses and mountain bikers on the way. These trails wind through some heavy forest and some steep terrain. As the trails follow the river, spectacular scenic views reward the hiker willing to experience them!

For hikers that aren't up to that rigorous of a walk, Simpson County Park offers a couple of alternatives. This St. Louis County park is six miles south of Winchester. Like Castlewood, Simpson gives visitors access to the Meramec River for fishing and boating.  It also has two paved trails of under two miles for a pleasant but not too taxing stroll outdoors with a leashed dog.
