I grew up surrounded by animals, and have always had a passion for dogs. My house usually had a minimum of two dogs living with us at a time. Once old enough to drive, I began volunteering at my local animal shelter, where I worked with and cared for cats as well as dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes. I was responsible for walking, feeding, socializing and comforting these dogs, getting several of them more used to human interaction. We also bathed and groomed dogs as needed. My passion for dogs and other animals inspired me to start pet sitting and dog walking locally, for neighbors and other friends and clients throughout my home town. I acted as a regular pet sitter and dog walker for multiple people, whenever they would leave for vacation and other holidays. During the holidays and summer vacation, I often watched up to five dogs at a time. One of my customers had four dogs of varying ages. I would walk dogs based on their individual schedules and needs as outlined by their owners, going as many times per day as requested. I began regularly pet sitting my friend’s dog who was terrified of cars and trucks but lived but lived by the side of a main road, working to increase her dog’s confidence and lower her fear. I carried this out for 4 years before moving to Florida for college. Once in college, I worked at a local dog day care for approximately five months over my last semester, getting more experience with working with a variety of dogs. I helped train several dogs with behavioral issues here, worked with dogs who were aggressive towards other dogs and people, and gained more knowledge behind the psychology of many dog behaviors. As an avid runner and rock climber, I love being outside and staying active, especially when animals are involved. I can't wait to meet and walk your dog! :)

Hi! I’m Alana and am very excited to be with Wag and to meet more furry friends! I’m pretty sure my family had a dog when I was born and I have three now! I’ve had many dogs over more than a few decades and continue to spend much time walking them, spoiling them and making sure they are happy. I’m that lady who will stop and admire all dogs as I go through my day, if able. I understand dogs and what owners would wish for them.

Dog Walking in Sparks

When people think of traveling to Nevada, they think gambling, casinos, and late nights of parties. While that may be true (Vegas baby!) for some areas, Sparks offers a bit more to the pet owner crowd. Surrounded by mountains and many nature trails to explore, your pet will love a trip to Sparks, Nevada.

There are over 6.3 million acres in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. There are hundreds of trails to explore with your pet and even areas that you can camp in. There are horseback trails as well as hiking trails, for those who may want to go on an extended horse vacation. The scenery is breath-taking, and your pet will be grateful for the new smells and exercise.

For day-to-day activities, your pet can romp around the Sparks Marina Dog Park. This park surrounds a 77-acre lake and even has its own designated swimming area for pooches. There is a fenced-in spot for canines to run free and dozens of walking trails to explore surrounding the dog park. A real exciting day out!

Sparks is too nice of a city just to visit for a day, so stay the night at the Western Village Inn and Casino. While it is a bit pricey to bring your pet, they make it worth the stay. The hotel is very modern, hip, and clean and will do everything to make your pet and you feel at home.

When it's time to chow down, drive a short distance to Reno for some tasty cuisine. Wild River Grille is a classy restaurant that serves tasty American dishes. They often have wine tasting parties, live music, and other events. Your well-behaved pet can join you on their lovely outside seating.

Another fun place is Squeeze In. This place offers a quirky menu with strange combinations that will keep your dining experience fun. Some of the dishes include omelets, eggs Benedict, sandwiches, and much more. Your pet is allowed to dine with you at their outside seating.

Sparks is a fresh, hip city that offers so much to do with your pet. You will definitely enjoy your stay here!

If your pup needs some off-leash exercise, head over to Sparks Marina Dog Park. This beautiful dog park is fenced in, but locals have noticed that smaller dogs can fit through the fence, so be careful. There is also a small pond that the dogs can play in, but the fence does not block the water and dogs can swim around it and leave the park. Be aware that there are ducks that frequent this park, so your dog needs to have a good recall in case ducks are on their fetching list. If your dog isn’t a fan of dog parks, he can still enjoy Sparks Marina Park which has a great walking trail for the two of you to appreciate. If visiting, stay at the Western Inn Village and Casino, which offers some pet friendly rooms for a fee and refundable deposit.

Adventuring with your pup can be a fun activity, and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest just southwest of Sparks is a perfect adventure spot for the two of you. Explore this national forest, which allows your dog to be off-leash, and hike the desert trails with your best friend. Be cautious, because sometimes the sand in this national forest can be warm and hurt your dog’s paws. Make sure to bring plenty of water since there won’t be any available.
