Sands Point
If you drive just ten miles northeast of Glen Head, you’ll come to Sands Point in Hempstead. This beachy area is the pawfect place for outdoor-loving dogs and their owners to enjoy some of the beautiful bay breezes at Sands Point Preserve. This spot welcomes leashed dogs to explore the hiking trails with their owners, winding through tree-lined forests and gorgeous scenery. There are also some open, grassy areas that make for an excellent spot to run with your dog or let him meet some new friends. Head to the Bosphorus Café Grill for some yummy kebabs or sandwiches and enjoy your meal at an outdoor table.

Cove Neck
Cove Neck in Oyster Bay is just over ten miles from Glen Head. This area is home to an important part of U.S. history, the Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, where Thomas Jefferson once lived. Sagamore Hill is very pet-friendly, allowing dogs on their leashes to join their owners as they explore a piece of history and take in all the sights. There are over 80 acres of land to explore, including open meadows, grassy areas, forests, and even some nature trails. There’s also a small beach at the end of one of the trails where your pup can splash around and cool off.

The Town Center of Huntington is about 11.7 miles from Glen Head and is a furtastic place to find some dog-friendly dining spots. Meehan’s is a local favorite offering salads, pizzas, burgers, and a wide selection of drinks. You can pull up a seat at one of several outdoor tables on the patio to enjoy your meal with your pup. If Mexican cuisine is your thing, try Besito Mexican Restaurant for some authentic meals. West Hills is a neighborhood in Huntington that’s about 13.5 miles from Glen Head. This area is the home of the West Hills County Park and West Hills Nature Preserve, two paw-friendly places that allow leashed dogs to explore with their owners. The county park even has its own dog park inside called the West Hills County Dog Park, which offers dogs some off-leash fun in a safe, fenced-in area. The Walt Whitman Trail is also located here! This trail has over four miles to roam on and will take you through beautiful forests with lots of sights for you and your pup to see.

Salisbury East
A little over eight miles from Glen Head is the Salisbury East neighborhood of Westbury. This neighborhood is the site of the Eisenhower Dog Park, located inside Eisenhower Park. Eisenhower Dog Park was created and maintained by local dog lovers and dog-loving organizations in the area and offers some pawesome amenities, like pavilions that are perfect for a picnic lunch, benches for owners, and waste bags to make cleaning up after your dog a little easier. After you’re done playing around with your favorite pooch, head to Bagel Boss Café for a morning bagel and coffee or a bagel sandwich for lunch.
