Hankering for a hike with your hound? You are only eight minutes away from the Lower Leggett Rd. trailhead. This trail is a long, gorgeous trail with plenty of adventure, beauty, and wildlife to sniff out along the way. However, as the trail progresses, it becomes tougher and tougher. Do not attempt to go all the way down the trail unless you are prepared. Furthermore, there are no facilities along the trail, so do not expect to find any bathrooms, water, or rest stops. Make sure your pooch is on a leash at all times to avoid getting a ticket.

Parkshore Estates

Chester Forest Park is twenty minutes from Bakewell. Although there isn't a dog park in the area, the vastness of this park more than makes up for it! This giant park borders a lake where there is even a small beach. You will often find families spending time on the beach or people fishing by the lake. However, if you and your pooch are a little more active, you can enjoy the park by running, hiking or biking on the dog-friendly trails here. Just make sure your pooch is on a leash at all times.

Harrison Bay

Another neighborhood that is approximately twenty miles from Bakewell is home to Harrison Bay State Park. This large park is nothing short of extraordinary. The shoreline here spans forty picturesque, serene miles along the Tennessee River, and the park itself is more than 1,200 acres. Many pet owners like to visit the bay because it is a great place to take their pooches when they want to exercise or get some fresh air. However, if you really want to make a day of it, you can take your pup out on the water by renting a boat! What better way to make un-fur-gettable memories with your pooch?

East Powells Crossroads

Tennessee is a special place in the south because, unlike other southern states, there is a great variety in the terrain of the region. A wonderful example of this is Prentice Cooper State Forest, located approximately twenty minutes from Bakewell. This state forest is situated right next to the Tennessee River, but is nothing like you would imagine. It is not a marsh or wetland, but instead a beautiful forest full of mountains and hills of all sizes. The 35 miles of trails located within the area are winding and range from easy to difficult. This makes the park an ideal location to take your pup for a day in the great outdoors!

Why not spend an afternoon or even a weekend in the wilderness with your most loyal companion? If you feel like it is time for you and your pup to get out of the city for a while, consider driving half an hour to Fall Creek Falls State Park. And yes, as the name of this park indicates, there is a waterfall within the park. There are also plenty of trails, open spaces, creeks and nature activities for you and your pooch to engage in. Just make sure you keep your pup on a leash at all times because it is incredibly easy to get lost in this gigantic park.
