Downtown Brattleboro
Downtown is a must-visit for anyone who's stopping by Brattleboro. Furtunately, there's a lot to see and do with your best friend in this vibrant, historic community. Take the Treasured Tree Walk, which shines a spotlight on the various trees located in the neighborhood. Sugar maples, white pines, and sycamores are just a few examples of the many tree species that you and Fido will encounter. After the tree tour, take a break on a bench at The Common, or grab a bite to eat at one of the pup-friendly restaurants on Main Street. Options include The Works Bakery Cafe, Brattleburger, and Superfresh! Organic Cafe.

Western Ave
The Creamery Bridge is a classic covered bridge that has changed little over the years. Now only open to foot traffic, it offers a nice picnic area and beautiful views of a crystal clear creek below. After checking out this popular tourist spot, you and your pooch can head to the nearby Living Memorial Park, which contains easy to moderate trails for hiking and mountain biking. Dogs are welcome at the park, but must stay leashed. If all that walking has left you hungry, stop by the dog-friendly Vermont Country Deli, where you can enjoy a variety of prepared foods, sandwiches, pastries, and specialty food items at one of their outdoor picnic tables.

Spring Tree Rd
Looking for a spot in Brattleboro where you can take an easy, scenic hike with your furry buddy? You'll find it next to the West River. The West River Trail is an old railroad bed that once served the West River Railroad, but these days, this unpaved trail attracts hikers and mountain bikers thanks to its fairly level surface and beautiful views. It stretches 16 miles, connecting Brattleboro to South Londonderry. Before setting off on the West River Trail, it's a good idea to eat something first, which you can do at The Porch Cafe or Top of the Hill Grill. Both places offer pooch-friendly tables outside.

If Fido is up for a bit of a challenge, bring him to Round Mountain in West Brattleboro for a hike. Located on the property of Lilac Ridge Farm, the 1.2-mile trail travels through pastoral farm fields and woods before inclining steeply towards the top. Once you and your pooch reach the summit vistas, you'll be greeted by great views to the east and south. Be sure to bring water and some snacks for yourself and your hiking buddy, so you can replenish your energy while enjoying the views before heading back down. Don't forget to pick up some fresh, organic produce at the farm.

Old Guilford Rd
For a quick nature getaway with your pup, there's Fort Dummer State Park. Named after the first permanent white settlement in the state, the park is big enough to keep things interesting, but small enough to make it a day trip. The Fort Dummer State Park comprises 217 acres of forest land, as well as the 0.8-mile Sunrise Trail and 0.5-mile Sunset Trail. The trails are easy to hike and will lead you and Fido among various tree species, the most common of which are white, red, and chestnut oaks. If you'd like to stay longer, the park has a campground with several tent, trailer, and lean-to sites.
