Union Gap is a friendly and touristy city in Yakima County. It’s a commercial and retail hub for the Yakima Valley, the first American Viticultural Area in Washington! Located south of Yakima, Union Gap offers pet-friendly attractions, including cafes, hotels, and parks. The city features a veterinarian clinic in the downtown area, and many more to the west. You will find them on your way to South Broadway and Yakima Air Terminal.
Fullbright Park, at the southern end of Union Gap, is a pawesome place to visit with a pooch in tow for a few reasons. This is a cool urban venue with occasional live performances for you and Fido to enjoy. Central Agricultural Museum shares a spot with the park, though dogs aren't allowed to sniff out the exhibitions. You can, however, enjoy a nice, relaxing stroll on the park's walking trails! The paths are steep and slick, especially when it’s raining! Make sure your pup stays on-leash here.
Union Gap’s city center has a wide variety of restaurants and cafes, many of which welcome doggie diners! Apart from well-known fast-food chains, you will find a lot of local eateries with mouthwatering treats. Leashed canine customers are welcome at the outdoor seating areas. Need more options? Take a short trip to Yakima, where you'll find pawlenty of places to chow down with your hound!
South Broadway is a populated area in Union Gap, outlining the western border of the city. It’s a quiet and residential area near Wide Hollow Creek. Head south of the residential boroughs to find Ahtanum Youth Park, a vast green venue that's pawfect for all your events, including family gatherings, weddings, and more! It’s a pet-friendly spot, so feel free to bring Fido with you to play the day away. There are trails and sports fields where you can throw Frisbee or play on-leash. Be sure to pack a picnic -- the picnic areas here are comfy and inviting. You'll also need to bring water and waste bags.
Attractive and colorful, Washington Park is a central neighborhood in Yakima. The banks of the Yakima River welcome outdoor enthusiasts and dog walkers for a scenic stroll! Pay a visit to Kiwanis Park, a massive recreation area with softball fields and a pond. Head straight south to E. Nob Hill Blvd and get your puppy ready for some off-leash fun! The central area of Sherman Park offers open space and picnic shelters. It's also home to a small doggy venue called Norman and Nellie Dog Park, a 1.6-acre fenced spot for making new friends! You can also check out Yakima Area Arboretum with a newly opened dog park and picnic area!
Summitview is the area along Summitview Avenue in West Yakima, south of Fruitvale. It’s a mixed-use spot with residential quarters and local businesses. Here, you will find shopping malls, restaurants, and more. If you travel with Fido, check out Gilbert Park on W Lincoln Ave. It’s a beautiful family-friendly venue with convenient parking! The place features picnic tables and a cool labyrinth to explore! Just a bit farther east is Tieton Terrace Park, a simple, no-frills open space. The site is way smaller than Gilbert Park, but it's pawfect for shy pooches since it's rarely crowded. There are also picnic tables and swings, so feel free to bring the whole family for a fun day at the park!
Looking for a Fido-friendly area nearby? How about Fairbrook in the southern portion of Yakima? The heart of the neighborhood features residential quarters with small and medium-sized single-family homes. Creekside Loop is home to a few eateries. Turn east, and you'll bump into a vast green space. Randall Park is a beautiful recreation area on Wide Willow Creek where you can relax! The walking trails are perfect for an on-leash adventure to the pond. The place has picnic tables, too, so bring treats to share with the pup! The most pawesome part of the park is its 1.3-acre off-leash area. Time to sniff out some new furry friends!
West Valley is a large populated community west of Yakima. It’s a pleasant place, fitting perfectly in the pet-friendly spirit of Yakima Valley. The area features a variety of large and small homes and local attractions, including an amusement center and lots of cafes and shopping venues. Visiting the area with Fido? West Valley Community Park is a fantastic place to have a picnic and walk with your pup on-leash. Here, you will find an extensive playground, BBQs, and sports fields. Many eateries in West Valley are pet-friendly, too. You and your pooch can chow down at George's Wok and Grill, which serves up Asian cuisine to doggie diners at the outdoor tables.
