Dennis is a seaside resort town in the middle of Cape Cod. The area was first settled in the 1600s and incorporated in 1793. The town was named after the local minister, Josiah Dennis. Farming in the area was unsuccessful, so the town became a thriving shipyard. The town is known for its many mansions that date back to the colonial period and the many warm, gorgeous beaches that are found along the shore.
Families love to travel to Dennis for its friendly and fun atmosphere. There are plenty of places to run and play, as well as check out local art and music throughout the town's museum, art galleries, and concert venues. Outdoor enthusiasts love the town for kayaking, canoeing, and sightseeing throughout the Dennis area.
The Cape Cod Rail Trail is a pupperific multi-use trail where you can take your whole family for a walk, hike, or bicycle ride on a nice day. Make sure you have a harness and bike-friendly leash if you plan on taking your dog for a ride.
There are two animal hospitals in the town of Dennis. There are also a few more animal hospitals in the surrounding Cape Cod villages to meet all of your dog's needs.
Dennis Village is home to some beautiful beaches, some of which welcome dogs! It is worth noting that dogs are not allowed on the beaches from Memorial Day through Labor Day, but they are allowed on them on-leash during the rest of the year. Mayflower Beach is a unique and stunning beach where you can walk for miles at low tide. It is a popular destination for photographers and those looking for a quiet place to be alone with their thoughts. Throughout the year, there is plenty of room for Frisbee games and picnics. Just make sure you clean up after your pet carefully during the dog-friendly season.
