Huntington is one of the largest cities in West Virginia, situated on the Ohio River, and 53 miles east of the State’s capital Charleston in Cabell County. This city has parks-aplenty, and is a great spot to spend some time in with your pet. Huntington takes great care of pets with four animal hospitals and two vet clinics, meaning your pooch is in safe hands should he fall ill while you are here.

For some much-needed off-leash time, head to the Huntington Pet Safe Dog Park in Ritter Park.
There are two fenced areas here, one for larger dog and one for the little pups, each with some agility equipment for extra fun. Benches are conveniently situated in the play areas for you to relax at while your pooch gallops around, and waste bags and water fountains are provided. Outside the dog park, Ritter Park is well worth spending some time in. You will need to put your pup back on the lead here while you enjoy the walking trails, picnic areas, rose garden and shady trees.

There’s no shortage of pet-friendly places to eat in Huntington. Le Bistro is a lovely French-inspired restaurant, where you can enjoy brunch, lunch or dinner with your pet by your side at one of the outdoor tables. The Marshall Hall of Fame Café has more American-style cuisine on their extensive menu of appetisers, salads, soups, sandwiches and hearty mains. Pets are also welcome here at the outdoor seating area. Likewise with Five Guys, take a seat outdoors with your pup and enjoy a burger, sandwich, wings or hotdog, washed down with a delicious milkshake.

So, head out and explore this pawsome pet-friendly city – you and your furry friend will love it here!

Saint Cloud Commons is a popular spot for walks and puppy plays, located in the far western end of Huntington. Fourpole Creek runs through here and can make for a little bit of mud, so if you are visiting in wet weather – bring a towel for the trip back to town! There is a paved walking trail around this park, and a ball field to enjoy. Bring your pup’s Frisbee or ball for a great game and really wear him out! Pack water, as there aren’t any fountains here, and have some waste disposal bags handy. For a treat after your play, head up to Dairy Queen for an ice cream or milkshake, or try one of their savoury options.
