Parks are located in various places throughout the city, downtown along the river and the shores of Wilson Bay, and in many of the city's neighborhoods. Each one has something unique and special to offer, and each is open not only to the city's residents but also to the city's visitors. Take your pet for a walk along the waterfront at the Riverwalk Crossing Park or Sturgeon City Park in the downtown area. Enjoy the scenery with your faithful companion by your side. Although pets are welcome in all parks, according to city ordinance, they must be kept on leashes at all times.

Walking enthusiasts will enjoy taking their pets with them when the explore the "rail-trail," a trial that runs through the city. The Jacksonville-Camp LeJune Rails-to-Trails is part of a nationwide network of such trails that follow the path of former railroad lines.

Several restaurants allow pets in their outdoor seating areas. Among them are Mission BBQ, Old Chicago, and Red Robin. Mission BBQ goes one step further by providing waters bowls for your pooches.

Six motels in Jacksonville provide accommodations for pooches and their owners: Extended Stay America, Baymont Inn & Suites, TownePlace Suites, Candlewood Suites, Home2 Suites, and Staybridge Suites. Each charges an extra fee for pets, ranging from $15 to $150, depending on location, type of dog, etc. Be sure to check each motel's current rules and regulations for pets before bringing yours with you.

The Cabin Creek Campground & Mobile Home also allows pets. They are only permitted in your personal RV or on your camping site and must be on leashes when outdoors. Certain breeds are not allowed, and none are permitted in any rental units.

Lots of great parks and pet-friendly restaurants and motels make Jacksonville, NC a great place for pets and their people.
