Westminster, Maryland is a beautiful city with the look of old England. It's lush forest surroundings and devotion to animals makes this a fantastic city to experience for pet owners.

One of the first outdoor places that your pet will enjoy is the Bennett Cerf Dog Park. This fantastic park does require a membership, which may not make it ideal for people just passing through, but residents can't miss out on this lovely park. It is a large fenced area so your pet can run off-lead to his heart's content. There are surrounding trails to walk on and catch some sniffs as well. Every third Tuesday is a group meeting for park members to let their pets play and walk together.

Another fun location is the Hashawha Environmental Center. Not only are dogs allowed here, but they have specialized trails for equestrian riders. Based on records, there are over 5 miles of trails to explore and views of lakes, streams, and dense meadows and forests. An exciting nature experience for humans and pets alike!

If you are just passing through Westminster and need a place to stay, check into the Best Western Catering and Conference Center. This clean, classic hotel will welcome you and your pet happily. They welcome dogs, cats, birds, and more! The hotel is in a great, convenient location, so you are close to everything in the city.

When it's time to eat, French Twist Coffee and Crepes offers tasty bakery treats. Your pet is welcome to join you at their outside seating while you enjoy some hot coffee or a luscious crepe.

Westminster is a very pet-friendly city and is not to be missed by any pet owner!

Bennett Cerf Dog Park, housed in Random House Park, is a great off-leash park hosted in the very heart of Westminster. This park features separate runs for large and small dogs, which allows small dogs a place where they won’t be overwhelmed, and big dogs won’t get themselves into trouble playing too roughly. The park has shade, benches, and water for worn out pooches. Once your dog has worked off some energy you can leash up and head into Random House Park to walk by the pond or enjoy the trails together.

Union Mills is home to Hashawa Environmental Center. This 380 acre park brings the relaxation and hiking trails of one of the state parks into Westminster. The land is largely left natural, with many walking and hiking trails turning each trip into a medley of options. Dogs must be leashed in the park, but with miles of walking trails, there’s still plenty of room to walk, hike, or jog. Every dog can stretch their legs and expect to get home tired, relaxed, and ready to snooze at the foot of the bed.

Westminster thrives on commutability. For pups who have grown familiar with Westminster parks, Prettyboy Reservoir Park is only a 20 minute commute away in Hamstead. Aside from being a great complement your pup is used to receiving, Prettyboy is a great space for inquisitive dogs. Wildlife and preserved nature combine to make the area beautiful and of interest to a dog’s sharp senses. Your dog must be leashed while on trails and entering/exiting the park. However, if your dog loves water, you can slip off the leash and let him enjoy it.
