Carefree is a town of fewer than 4,000 people in southwestern Maricopa County, Arizona. Known for its upscale residences, Carefree was created in the 1950s and then incorporated in 1984. Carefree is also known for the Carefree Sundial, which is the third largest sundial in the western hemisphere. It sits on nine square miles, and the bigger city of Scottsdale also borders carefree to the south, and the town of Cave Creek borders it to the west. Carefree's climate is nearly perfect: long, hot summers and mild winters, but it gets more moisture than other Arizonian cities like Phoenix.
Luckily, there are endless opportunities for exploring the beautiful outdoors in and around Carefree, and many of these activities are dog-friendly, so there's no need to leave your dog behind when you head out for a day of fun! Pinnacle Peak is an upscale residential neighborhood in Scottsdale, and it's also where you can access the Brown's Ranch Trailhead. It's only 11 miles from Carefree, and this trailhead leads you to 176 miles of hiking trails. There are different hikes for all different levels and hiking skill, so you can choose a walk that works best for you and your dog. Your dog must be kept on a leash during your hike, and be sure to bring lots of water. There are also plenty of off-leash activities near Carefree that are just a short drive away!
