Fountain Hills was named after the large fountain in the center of town, which was once one of the largest fountains in the world! But the fountain isn't all it has to offer; this town is a great place to be in since there are a variety of things to do here.
If you enjoy hiking, this city has several trails where you and your pooch can enjoy and explore nature while getting in some exercise. The trails range from easy to moderately difficult, depending on your physical condition. Some of the trails are shorter distances and some are fairly long. Since they all have good reviews, you and Fido are sure to have a pawesome time no matter which trail you choose.
The McDowell Mountain Preserve & Trails offers guided hikes. This is great if you and your pooch want to get to know the terrain better before heading out on your own. You will just need to register prior to the hike, but the hike itself is free of charge. You will have to pay the $2 admission fee to enter the park, but there is no extra cost for the guided hikes. The views on all the trails are stunning, which is what makes it the pawfect place to make some un-fur-gettable memories with Fido!
Fountain Hills is home to the Dog Park at Desert Vista Park. This off-leash dog park encompasses 3 fenced-in acres, so Fido has plenty of place to roam safely. Your pup is free to explore all of the terrain here. If your pooch is on the smaller side, there are two separate areas for different sized dogs. The grass will feel so soft under your canine friend’s paws and there is plenty of shade available too. Make sure to bring water for you both as well as supplies for cleanup! They're not provided here. To gain access to this park, your pooch must be current on vaccinations and licensed through the dog park.
If you are looking for a great place to play fetch with your pup, then this is the neighborhood for you. It is located about 19 miles from Fountain Hills and is home to the Quail Run Dog Park. This off-leash dog park has a lot of room for your pooch to run around, yet it's small enough so that you can always see where your canine friend is! There are separate areas for different sized dogs and both are totally fenced in. There is plenty of parking available and the park offers water fountains for both you and your canine pal. Seating and shade trees are also available here for added comfort. Keep in mind you will need to bring supplies for cleaning up after your furry friend. Also note that the park is closed on Thursdays for maintenance.
If you've got a shy dog that doesn't like going to traditional doggie parks, you're in the right neighborhood! The Countryside Park Off-Leash Area is a fenced-in, off-leash dog park that's pawfect for the shy guys. A separate area is set aside especially for timid dogs, and the other is for more energetic, social dogs. There is plenty of shade and seating for you and your pup here. The park also provides water fountains for you and your canine friend as well as supplies for those necessary cleanups. Something to keep in mind is that the park is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. Bring your pup here for a pawesome day!
Has Fido packed on a few pounds? Could he do with a couple of gym sessions? Then take the 37-mile drive to Ellsworth, where you'll find a gym that's just for him! The Club-Doggie Dog Agility Gym will help to improve your pup’s agility skills. If you're in need of some training, the gym also offers classes on obedience. This gym has great hours, too; they're open every day so you and your pup can come and enjoy the facility. Your membership can be bought month to month, or you can choose to purchase membership for 6 months to a year. The agility equipment is located inside, which is climate controlled. There's also full-sized equipment outside. Your pooch will want to stay at this unique gym fur-ever!
Need to get out of town for a little while? Head on over to Chandler, where you and your canine companion can burn some energy. It's located 26 miles from Fountain Hills, and is home to the Shawnee Park. This off-leash park is so spacious that your pooch will definitely get tired after a day of running around! There are separate areas for timid dogs and social dogs. Parking is close by and there's plenty of it. There are a lot of trees for shade and many different places for you to sit and watch your pup romp around. The park also has water for you and your canine friend, as well as cleanup supplies for you to use. If your pooch loves water, this park includes kiddie pools and hoses for a nice splash on a hot day. An agility course in the middle of the park adds to Fido's fun. Don't forget to bring a toy!
