Lost Dutchman State Park

Apache Junction is located just 8 miles northwest of Gold Canyon, and it's home to the Lost Dutchman State Park, which allows dogs to visit as long as they stay on their leash. There are a variety of trails that you can explore here. The park even has guided tours for you and your pooch if you don’t want to go it alone. The trails are mainly gravel, and something to keep in mind is that there is little to no shade. Bring some water and doggie waste bags with you. Feel free to bring the whole pack to enjoy all the park's activities, including wildlife watching and camping!

Citrus HOA

Approximately 25 miles away from Gold Canyon, you'll find the Citrus HOA neighborhood of Mesa, AZ. This is an affluent part of Mesa, complete with quaint cul-de-sacs and gorgeous single-family homes. The real gem of this neighborhood, though, is Quail Run Park, a furrific family-friendly park with its own off-leash area for dogs! Please note that the off-leash area is closed every Thursday for maintenance, so schedule your visit accordingly. Water fountains are provided here, but you'll need to supply your own waste bags. Why not bring the whole family to enjoy this park? Human amenities include a playground, sports fields, and picnic areas.

Woodside

Just across the way from the Mesa's Woodside neighborhood, you'll find another pawesome place for Fido to play! Countryside Park has its own off-leash area with two separate sections for active and timid dogs. Note that these areas do not separate dogs by size, but by temperament. You may find a large dog in the timid dog area, and a small dog in the active mutt area. Some locals note that waste baggies are supplied, but aren't always restocked regularly, so be sure to bring your own just in case. Water is provided. Please note the off-leash area is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.

Dave Brown Lamoreaux Farms

This neighborhood in Gilbert, AZ, a little over 25 minutes from Gold Canyon, features homes with well-groomed lawns and wide sidewalks where you and your leashed pup can enjoy a daily walk. When you need to have some leash-free fun, though, you'll be happy to know there's an off-leash park right in the neighborhood! Crossroads Park is a 92-acre green space with all sorts of amenities for the whole family. The dog park here provides everything you'll need, including separate areas for active and shy dogs, water, and doggie waste bags. The people side of the park features ballfields, an amphitheater, walking trails, and so much more! Leashed dogs are welcome to explore the rest of the park.

San Tan Village

After all that playing at Gilbert's dog parks, you and your hound will probably be hungry, which is why you should paw on over to Gilbert's San Tan Village neighborhood! This open-air shopping center has plenty of pet-friendly eateries to satisfy even the pickiest palates. Craving Mexican? Stop by Cantina Laredo! Caketini is a family-owned spot that serves up some delicious (and gigantic!) cupcakes and other sweet treats. Tropical Smoothie Cafe is another option for health-conscious owners. You'll also find some drive-thrus in the area where you can grab a quick snack before heading home. Leashes and good behavior are required at all establishments, which welcome dogs at the outdoor seating areas.
