Santa Clarita, California, is a large city located in the northern part of Los Angeles County, in the area that was once known as Rancho San Francisco. The main attractions for humans in Santa Clarita are the Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park and the California Institute of the Arts. Dogs, however, fancy the other, more pet-friendly attractions this city has to offer.
There are two off-leash dog parks in Santa Clarita with Central Park, part of the Santa Clarita Central Park, being one of them. This new dog park is 1.3 acres in size and has a designated area for small dogs. There are benches, picnic tables, and trees that make the park attractive for the owners as well.
The other off-leash dog park in town, the Canine Country Dog Park, is slightly smaller than the Central Bark Park. This park has a designed a separate area for small dogs as well and offers all the amenities one would expect from a dog park. This park is excellent for timid dogs as the park is more hidden and, therefore, less crowded.
The Vasquez Rocks Trail is a great excursion that can be undertaken with or without a trusty canine sidekick. The trail is relatively easy and only 1 mile long but offers a magnificent view of the San Andreas Fault line and the rock formations formed by earthquakes.
This scenic neighborhood of Santa Clarita is surrounded by open park spaces and hiking trails that can keep you and your dog occupied for hours! Whitney Canyon Park is a beautiful 442-acre park in the Rim of the Valley Trail Corridor provides several trails for hikers, mountain bikers and dogs!.Gate King Open Space is another great option, offering up 180 acres of land and trails to be enjoyed by on-leash dogs and humans alike! Wildwood Canyon encompasses 95 acres of more open space and trails that on-leash dogs can enjoy with their owners. Don’t forget to take in the gorgeous view of Santa Clarita Valley.
Stevenson Ranch gives locals access to Pico Canyon and Santa Clarity Woodlands Park. Pico Canyon is located in the north section of the Santa Clarita Woodlands Park, offering hikers, bikers and dog walkers shaded trails to enjoy the scenic views. Santa Clarita Woodlands Park is 4,000 acres of public parkland that has numerous trails of scenic views and wildlife that you and your leashed pup can hike and enjoy! There is a local Stevenson Ranch PetSmart that offers training as well!
Pardee is a family friendly neighborhood located along the Santa Clara River. It offers residents access to Central Park, 130-acres worth of playing fields, community gardens, a 3-mile trail and the Central Bark Dog Park. Dogs on leashes can walk the trail with their owners but the bark park is completely off-leash. It’s a 1.3-acre doggie park that is located near the back of Central Park, and has a designated area for small dogs and a separate area for larger dogs. The park also hosts the Fight It! 1k,5k, and 10k race that welcomes runners of all abilities and their canine companions! All proceeds raised go to the Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund.
This Santa Clarity locale is very family-friendly and has a local Whole Foods Market, and offers retail shopping via the Valencia Crossroads Shopping Center. Valencia Central Valley Park that has plenty of open space to play fetch or frisbee with your pup, or he can join you while you picnic and sunbathe! Saufus is surrounded by dog friendly events. Protein for Pets hosts adoption events, Natural Pet Hosts Mutt Mixers, and Whimzee’s host a Yappy Hour that gives you and your pooch the opportunity to connect with other dog lovers!
Newhall Park is located right smack dab in the middle of downtown Santa Clarita and offers locals the option to take advantage of their wide-open spaces and walking paths. Dogs are welcome as long as they are on leash. If you have kids in Junior High School, it makes for a convenient errand because the park backs up to Placerita Junior High School. The Acton Community Center hosts dog-friendly events like Hawgz 4 Dawgz. Vendors, food, drinks, and raffles are included with admission and all bikes, dogs and dog lovers are welcome!
