Socially Distanced Pet Care
There are several city parks in Avon, CT, such as Alsop Meadows, Countryside Park, and Hazen Park. None of them bear the designation as a dog park. However, most of them permit leashed dogs on the premises. Owners are expected to clean up after their pets. Consult the city’s recreations and parks page for a complete list of parks that permit pets.
One restaurant in Avon is dog-friendly. The First & Last Tavern welcomes pets on their out-door patio. When you’re done eating your brick oven pizza, you can let Fido lick the pan!
A couple of motels in Avon are considered pet-friendly. Both Residence Inn and Avon Old Farms Hotel allow pets in their rooms. Residence Inn welcomes pets of any size. You may have up to two pets, but the motel adds a fee of $100 per pet, per stay. Avon Old Farms Hotel also allows up to two pets per room. Size is limited to 50 pounds or less, with a pet fee of $20 per pet, per night. Be sure to check room availability at either business before bringing your pet along with you.
If you’re passing through Avon, CT, be sure to stop by and visit any of the city’s parks, enjoy a meal at the First & Last Tavern, and spend the night, with your pets, at one of the pet-friendly motels there.
In the neighborhood of Wethersfield, Connecticut sits a quaint little Dog Park named Mill Woods Park Dog Park. This park is a low-key environment where your pooch can be free to run around and make friends. It is an off-leash dog park where pups are free to stretch their legs and play. The areas are separated by your pooch’s size. There is also a shady portion of the park which is the pawfect place for you and your pooch to rest on hot days. Benches, picnic tables, trash cans, poop bag stations, and water are provided. Be sure to check the message boards when you visit to keep up with what’s happening.
In this pawesome dog-friendly neighborhood is the South Windsor Bark Park. This park is fairly new and is highly rated by the locals. The park is completely fenced-in, so your pooch is free to ditch the leash, frolic, play, and socialize to his heart's content. Small dogs and large dogs each have their own area for safe play. There’s also agility equipment to give your pooch a good workout. Since the park is mostly covered in wood chips, you won't have to worry about your furry friend getting down and dirty at this dog park!
This neighborhood is located about 8 miles southeast of Avon, but the short drive is well worth it. Here, you'll find the Farmington River Trail, a well-maintained, scenic river trail that you and your pooch are sure to love. Don't forget to bring a camera along to capture the gorgeous views this trail has to offer. There is convenient access to this trail and your pup will have a great time sniffing the scents of nature. You will need to keep your pup on a leash while walking along the trail. Don't forget to bring water and waste bags!
This neighborhood is about 21 miles southeast of Avon. In Wolcott, you'll find a beautiful wooded trail called The Peterson Park and Mattatuck Trail. The park and trail are clean and well maintained, so make sure to leave it as clean as you found it and pick up after your pooch. Look out for the blue trail markers along the way so you don't get lost. As long as your pooch is on his leash, he's welcome at this family-friendly park. The entrance to the trail is located behind the skate park. There’s also a river along the trail for your pooch to take a swim in while enjoying nature. Grab a leash, some water, and a towel if you're swimming, and head on down to Peterson Park for a fun-filled day in nature with your pooch!
This dog-friendly neighborhood is located about 26 miles south of Avon and is home to the Cheshire Dog Park. This dog park encompasses 2 acres of fenced-in space so your pooch can play safely. This park is an off-leash dog park, so let your pooch run wild (in the enclosed area, of course) and make some new friends! There’s also agility equipment for the more rambunctious pups. Waste receptacles are provided, so make sure you use them! After all, no one likes a litterbug. Don't forget to take water along, since it's not provided.
