Mohican Hill
Even though there are no particular dog-friendly places where you can take your dog to exercise in Darien, you won't have to travel far to find one! Approximately 18 miles away from Darien is The Cascades at Lake Mohegan. This recreation area welcomes dogs, and is located in the Mohican Hill neighborhood of Fairfield. The trails surrounding the lake are pawfect for walkies, and offer gorgeous views of the waterfalls! There are waste bins all over the place, but you'll need to bring your own baggies. There are picnic areas, too, and the trails are pretty shaded. The best part? Dogs are allowed off-leash and in the water as well!

Ash Creek
If your pup wants to dip his paws in some sand and surf, then don’t hesitate to check out Jennings Dog Beach! The beach can be found around 15 miles east of Darien, in Ash Creek, Fairfield. This beautiful place is the one of the only off-leash beaches in the area, and it is open from October 1st to March 31st. Dogs are allowed off-leash on the beach and can play, swim, and enjoy hanging out with other pups on the beach. Be aware that dogs are not allowed on the boardwalks, pavilions, or playgrounds on the beach. Make sure you bring some bags and water.

Cedar Point
Another beach that you might want to check out is the Compo Beach Off Leash Dog Area, located around 10 miles away from Darien. This area is located in Westport's Cedar Point neighborhood. Doggies can enjoy this beautiful sandy beach from October to the end of March. You should be aware that, even though the place is off-leash, it is not fenced, so your pooch should respond well to voice commands. What can be a better combination than dogs and beaches? Imagine all the fun! You are required to pick up after your pooch here. Bring some water, too!

West Melville
If you and your pup don’t like beaches all that much, you should consider checking out the Walt Whitman Trail. Even though this trail is a little bit further from Darien, around 55 miles, it is the perfect place for enjoying some nature views. The trail is pretty easy and flat. It’s around 4.25 miles long and takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Doggos have to be leashed here, and they are not allowed in the picnic areas. There are a lot of horses that visit the trail, so make sure your pup approves of their company. Bring water and poop bags!

Rowayton
For those of you who want to stay as close to Darien as possible, but still take your pups to exercise, we recommend the Rowayton Dog Park. This park is around 2 miles away from Darien and is located in Central Rowayton. This large, off-leash park is fenced and has lots of grass for you pup to run around in and make some new fur-iends! There is water provided in the park, and, overall, it's very well-maintained. The pet parents are friendly and responsible, so you and your pooch can feel like one of the pack. Make sure to bring some bags for cleaning up after your pooch.
