Leash up your pup and head over to the Wilton Town Forest for some much needed time in nature. Your pal will love the serene setting and break from the hustle and bustle of life. In the northeast corner of the forest, you’ll find Sheep Falls. Barrett’s Brook flows out of the falls and adds to the forest’s beauty. There are several trails that weave throughout the forest. The Orange Trail runs alongside Barrett’s Brook and is often noted as one of the prettiest trails in Wilton. Facilities are not available, so bring your own water. What a great place for your pal to get some exercise!

Every dog loves a trip to the park. Clip on your dog’s leash and pay a visit to the Merwin Meadows Park for some fun in the sun. The Norwalk River flows right through this park, so you know you’ll get some beautiful waterfront scenery during your walk. Follow the paved path around the park and through groves of shade trees. You can also access the Norwalk River Valley Trail in this park. Head north on the trail through the adjacent Lover’s Lane Open Space. You’ll pass through a thickly wooded area and walk alongside the river. Sounds amazing!

Does your dog love being in the great outdoors? Then she’ll most definitely love Cherry Lane Park. Sprawling just over 50 acres, this gorgeous slice of nature will rejuvenate your pup’s spirits. Grab her leash and head over for some serious exploring the seven trails that meander throughout the property. Follow just one, or let your pooch create her own loop. As you wander through the park, you’ll find fir, spruce, maple, birch and beech trees. Let your pooch rest her paws on the shore of the pond. Chances are you’ll see ducks floating around. Take some time to soak in the scenery and enjoy having your pup at your side.

If your pooch is in dire need of some off leash time, head over to the Winslow Dog Park. This pawsome park is located inside of Winslow Park in Westport, and is only a 15 minute drive from Wilton. With plenty of space to roam, your pup will be in heaven! He’ll also meet new furry friends. A romp around the field gives him the chance to burn some pent up energy. When he’s done playing, clip on his leash and explore the walking trails of the main park. By the time you head home, he’ll be all tuckered out and ready for a nap!

Nothing beats an off leash area at the beach! Don’t let your dog miss out on all the fun, and head over to Compo Beach so she can splash in the surf. Located in Westport, Compo Beach is less than half an hour from Wilton. Be sure to bring a ball so your four legged friend can play fetch on the sand. This beach is part of a park, so there are also sport courts, ball fields, a playground, and picnic facilities available. Keep in mind the off leash areas are only available from October 1 to March 30. During the peak months from April to September, your pup needs to be kept on leash.
