The town of Milledgeville, Georgia was named after John Milledge, who was the Governor of Georgia from 1802 to 1806. A popular attraction in Milledgeville is the Bartram Educational Forest, with more than 2,000 acres, part of which was used as a farm for the residents of the Central State Hospital. This is a great forest to walk Fido while you are here. With approximately 4,358 dogs in Milledgeville, there are many dog-friendly places to go.
People in Milledgeville take their pets seriously, and some are brought along just like a child, so many of the businesses in town allow furbabies to join you. Oconee River Greenway on East Hancock Street has a great dog park with sections for both small and large dogs, two water fountains, benches, dog poo bags, and plenty of trees and grass to explore. Dog owners in Milledgeville also take their pups to Bonner Park by Georgia College. There are playgrounds, fields, basketball, track, and a huge BBQ and picnic area.
If your furkid needs more space, take him to Macon Dog Park on Adams Street. This amazing park takes up an entire block with small and large sections, agility training equipment, pavilions, picnic tables, benches, water fountains, and there is even a stream running through it! There are plenty of dog waste bags and trash cans available, and the people here actually use them.
This dog-friendly neighborhood is located about 34 miles from Milledgeville. This neighborhood is home to the Macon Dog Park. This enormous dog park and has a lot of room for your pooch to run around. There is also a creek for your pooch to splash around in if they like water. If your pooch gets dirty on their adventures, you can rinse them off at the hydrant and hose before you leave the park. Don’t forget to pack a towel! Downtown Milledgeville is a dog-loving neighborhood that’s home to the Oconee River Greenway. This is a great place to take your pup for a fun-filled time. You and your pooch can enjoy the nature views on the trails or visit the dog park on the premises. The nature trails are peaceful and your pup will have fun exploring all of the plants and trees in this undeveloped area. While on the trails, make sure your pooch stays on their leash. The dog park is an off-leash park where your pooch can run until their heart's content or make friends with other dogs that may be visiting the park. Just make sure and bring water in case your pup gets thirsty.
This dog-friendly community is situated about 13 miles southwest of Milledgeville. This neighborhood is home to SouthHaven Dog Services. SouthHaven Dog Services offers fun and real world obedience classes for your pooch. They have very high reviews due to their method of teaching. They include the doggy as well as the dog owner in their classes. All pups love this obedience school because it is based on games and fun while they learn. This Georgia city is located about 53 miles west of Milledgeville. If you require the services of a veterinary hospital during your stay, Forsyth is home to one of the best. The Caldwell Veterinary Hospital is open Monday through Saturday and they offer a variety of services. They offer spay and neutering services, and if your pooch happens to get hurt, they offer surgery services as well. The facility is up to date and has a very nice, caring staff. Dr. Caldwell is the veterinarian at this facility. He and his staff are very compassionate and care about your pooch as much as you do!
Need to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? Then you’ll want to head up to the northern part of the city, which is home to The Little River Park Campground. This campground welcomes all dogs provided they stay on-leash for the duration of their visit. There is a lot of nature to see here with your pooch. You can go on nature walks, swim near the beaches and also enjoy the shade of the trees on the hotter days.
