Dog Walking in Franklin Park

Located in Cook County, Franklin Park is a small village near O’Hare International Airport, about 10 minutes west of Chicago. Although it features a number of both small and large recreation areas, the village does not have any pet-friendly facilities, apart from a few eateries, a magical pet-friendly store, and an animal hospital which will take good care of your pooch while you're here.

North Park welcomes leashed dogs to walk with their owners. Be sure to bring some waste bags and water for your excursion to this furrific community park. For some real off-leash fun, you will have to travel just 8 minutes north to Schiller Park, IL. “Bark” Park is a natural hidden gem with a double-gated entrance, a spacious area for off-leash chases and games with furry friends, benches for humans, and drinking water faucets for canines.

But if you want to find a true retreat with your pup, gear up for a 20-minute drive west to Cabin Nature Center, a serene park in Wood Dale featuring looped walking and biking trails, a log cabin and a dog park for some off-leash fun.

Want to do something a little different with your dog? Pay a visit to Midwest Magic, a magic shop in Franklin Park welcoming leashed canines and promising a tasty treat at the check-out!

The southwestern region of Oak Park borders with Franklin Park and offers access to two dog parks within walking distance of each other. You will find Forest Park Dog Park on Lehmer Street, home to an extensive off-leash area split into two sections for small and large pups. Both fenced sections are covered in wood chips and mulch, and provide benches for owners. However, the park lacks shade, especially during hot periods. Maple Dog Park is located less than a 5-minute walk south of Forest Park, on Maple Street. This park also has plenty of space to run, romp, and enjoy some off-leash playtime. However, your pooch probably isn't much of a shopper, so you'll want to head to Portage Park, a 35-acre park established in 1913 and the neighborhood's namesake. This is a great local spot with a friendly community of people enjoying their weekends or celebrating memorable events together in the park. The place features multiple walking trails, benches and picnic spots; pooches are always welcome, but should stay on-leash. Chopin Park is another great public park which is usually extremely busy on weekends. The park has walking trails and a designated fenced area for pups.
