Dog Areas in South Berwick

2 Trails

South Berwick is nestled in York County. Originally settled in 1631, it was once the home to one of the first water powered sawmills in America. Today, it is a charming village with several historic buildings. Since it’s located right on the banks of the Salmon Falls River, local pups get to enjoy beautiful scenery. This small dog loving town also has four veterinary clinics, so pups know they are always in good hands.

You can’t visit South Berwick without spending some time at the Vaughan Woods State Park. Treat your four legged friend to an afternoon in this pawsome 165 acre park. Set alongside the Salmon Falls River, this spectacular slice of nature has a variety of trails that wind through pines and hemlocks. The Bridle Path meanders over rolling hills, while the Bridle Path Loop drops into a valley and heads towards the river. The Scenic River Run continues through the valleys and near streams. It’s common to see horseback riders on the trails, so be sure to keep your pup on leash. During the summer season, drinking water is available at the Park’s entrance. Remember to keep your four legged hiking buddy well hydrated. A visit to this park will have your pooch wagging her tail with delight!

    #3 Long Sands Beach

If your pup is an ocean lover, head over to Long Sands Beach. This beautiful white sand beach is located in York and is only a 25 minute drive from South Berwick. Since this beach is a pup-ular tourist destination from May until September, dogs are not allowed on the beach between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. during these months.
