The small community of Saint James is nestled in wine country. Many visitors come to Saint James to visit one of the many local wineries. Saint James Winery is one of the largest found in the Midwest. It produces more than 200,000 cases of various kinds of wine each year. This 180-acre vineyard welcomes visitors. The vineyards are open for tours, and many people come to get a sample of the fruit of the vine. A 3.1-mile off-road walkway through the property gives visitors a close-up view of the growing grapes. The beautifully landscaped Gardens has numerous tables and benches. A life-sized chess board and a bocce court add the Gardens' charm. Dogs may visit with their people in the outdoor areas as long as they remain on-leash.
Also, Saint James is home to Maramec Springs Park. This privately-owned green area includes crystal clear springs which are a favorite of anglers and boaters. The property has 200 acres of public use land and is an excellent spot for hiking and viewing wildlife. A camping ground with full hookups makes for an ideal getaway from the big city. Maramec welcomes canine family members as long as pups remain on no less than a ten-foot leash.
In town, there are three dedicated hiking trails and two city parks. One veterinary clinic operates within the boundaries and takes care of most veterinary needs.
