Home to the state's only law school, several other collegiate institutions, a historic downtown area, and many natural wonders, Concord, New Hampshire is a town where culture and recreation abound. As you'll find, there are some truly fantastic opportunities to explore Concord with your furry friend.
Ready to get a little time off the leash? Concord's dog park can surely helps. The 1-acre fenced-in area is open daily from dark to dusk and features separate areas for large and small dogs, as well as amenities like toys, water buckets, and kiddie pools for especially hot days. The park is surrounded by small paths that lead through the forest and down to a river.
As for places to walk, they're options for everybody, from those seeking urban views and amenities, to those looking for a glimpse of the great outdoors. Concord has a thriving downtown shopping district, and lucky for Fido, it's full of dog-friendly shops and stores. Some stores even have dogs on site!
Concord's parks and recreation department maintains a variety of trails. Local favorites include the short (under a mile) Upton-Morgan State Forest trail, which traverses an old silkworm farm, and the East Concord Heritage Trail (about three miles long).
Located in the West Concord neighborhood is White Park, a fantastic place to take your pup for a great walk or jog. White Park does ask that you always keep your dog on-leash since it is a public park. If your pup is in need of some training, then head on over to Spirit of the Okami, which offers private lessons for you and your dog and also has a wide range of training classes from puppy to advanced, tricks, and clicker training. Locals rave about how much the trainers love the dogs that visit.
Terrill Park Dog Park is a beautiful fenced in dog park that is separated by large and small breeds, so you don’t have to worry about your pup’s safety. Terrill Park Dog Park does require a permit before you can enter, and is supported by Friends of the Concord Community Dog Park. The park backs up to a small river, so if your dog gets a little hot, he can jump in the water to cool down. If you and your pup work up an appetite at the park, then head over to Beefside which welcomes your dog with open arms, and even gives them a bowl of water upon your arrival.
If you’re headed into downtown Concord with your pup, be sure to stop by Bark Station. Besides being a daycare center, Bark Station allows you to rent out rooms for, wait for it, DOG BIRTHDAY PARTIES! They also have individual training times and areas for off-leash fun. If you feel the need for food, check out Cheers, which has a New England inspired menu that includes options such as fried sea scallops and chicken cordon bleu. Their outdoor tables are 100% doggie friendly, and the staff helps your pup feel right at home. The outdoor patio provides plenty of room so your dog won’t feel too crowded.
Every pup loves their spa treatment, so let your dog have a relaxing day at A Furry Affair. This pet grooming facility offers a full-service grooming salon that does both basic services or breed standard grooms. They also offer brushing and bathing for your pup, as well as nail trimming! Before you leave, be sure to buy your pup a toy in their front lobby. Locals love how nice the staff is and how well they treat your dog while in their care. East Concord also offers numerous dog training places including No Monkey Business Dog Training and Motivated K9, just in case Fido needs to learn a few manners.
Reed Park in the beautiful Historic District is a beautiful park that is perfect for a walk or jog with your pooch before the day gets busy. The park has a multipurpose field, playground equipment, and softball fields, so your dog will be filled with activities and people to socialize with. On the outskirts of the Historic District is Groomingtails of Concord. If your pup had too much fun at Reed Park, Groomingtails of Concord offers a stress-free environment where your pet can have a relaxing grooming encounter. They even offer pickup and drop off services and have an easy online appointment desk.
