Floral Park

When you and your pupper just need some fresh air and greenery, head over to the Centennial Gardens and Bird Sanctuary. This 12 acre parcel of land can be found on Floral Parkway, in the south end of Floral Park. The area was previously used as a storm basin, but has since been converted into a passive recreational area where you can enjoy the many trees and birds. There are benches in the park, and a nice paved roadway that meanders through the park. Along this roadway you can enjoy the sights while your dog enjoys the smells of the flowering trees. Leashed dogs are welcome, but don’t forget the doggy waste bags!

Alley Park

Just a hop across the border into Queens brings you to another puppy paradise! In the Alley Park neighborhood, just 10 minutes from Floral Park, you can find the sprawling Alley Pond Park. This park will transport you back to New York’s geological past, where you can enjoy unique natural features of the area. Here you can wander along the hiking trails with your best pal through the tidal flats, fresh and saltwater wetlands, meadows and forests. Amenities include restrooms, a variety of athletic fields, fishing, and playgrounds. Don’t forget to pack a picnic, because there are barbeque areas here as well. Dogs are welcome of course, as long as they stay leashed and leave only paw prints!

Fresh Meadows

Just southwest of the Alley Pond Park, you can find one of the largest parks in Queens! The Cunningham Park is located on the Union Turnpike, in the Fresh Meadows neighborhood. There are long paved roadways that runs through the wooded areas of this park that draws in dog walkers, joggers, and nature enthusiasts. The park even has a dog run, where you pup can burn some energy running and playing off-leash. There is drinking water available, but you may want to bring waste bags and your dog’s favorite ball for some fetch! Dogs are welcome throughout the whole park, but need to stay leashed when they’re not within the dog run.

Glen Oaks

In the town of Queens, just above Floral Park, you can find the Glen Oaks neighborhood. Glen Oaks is proud home to the Enchanted Forest Dog Park. This dog park allows for dogs to have a safe place to run, play, and meet other dogs off-leash. You need to sign up for the annual membership to use this park, and provide proof of vaccinations. Once you arrive, you will find everything you need, including drinking water and waste bags. There are two separate fenced off areas, one for small breeds and another for the big guys. Garden City Downtown

In the nearby town of Garden City, you can find plenty more green spaces to explore with your pupper! In the Downtown area, you will find the woofderful Brierley Park, just under a 20 minute drive from Floral Park. Here you can find a jogging course and plenty of grassy areas that your pup will love to romp around on. This park is popular among dog walkers, so get ready for the chance to make some furry friends! Leashed dogs are welcome. When it’s time for a frosty treat, head over to the Garden City TCBY located in the same neighborhood. Here you can enjoy some healthy and delicious frozen yogurt with your canine companion at one of the four dog friendly outdoor tables.
