Saranac Rd/ Champlain Ave

Visit a couple of pawesome parks in the Saranac Rd/ Champlain Ave neighborhood! Harold Walker Memorial Park is a woofderful outdoor recreation area where leashed pups are welcome. You and your pup will have a ball romping in the open field or relaxing in the shade of one of the many mature trees. There’s even a pond where your furry friend can splash around! In the fall, the pond is a pawsome place to sit on a bench and appreciate the stunning colors of the changing leaves. The park also has tennis and basketball courts, a playground for kiddos, benches, picnic tables and shuffleboard. This neighborhood is also home to the Hempstead Lake State Park!

Lakeview

Locals love West Hempstead’s Halls Pond Park in the Lakeview neighborhood! This 11-acre green space is a pawesome place for a quiet walk with your leashed dog. There are tons of natural sights, sounds and smells for you and your pup to take in while you stroll around the park’s five-acre pond, which is commonly inhabited by ducks and geese. Be sure to explore the beautiful hardwood forest and its walking path on the north side of the park, too. The trees provide ample shade in warmer months and a furrific spectrum of color each autumn, making this a puptastic place for some exercise with your pooch!

Long Beach Rd/ Baldwin Rd

Travel less than two miles east of West Hempstead and you’ll reach the village’s sister community of Hempstead! There, the Long Beach Rd/ Baldwin Rd neighborhood has a woofderful place for you and Fido to hang out, at Kennedy Memorial Park! Enjoy a jaunt with your leashed dog on the park’s paved walking path that winds around the perimeter of this large park. There are plenty of mature trees along the way, providing some shade for a walk in warmer months. There’s also a playground for kiddos, athletic fields and benches at this pawsome park. Lincoln Park is another furrific park in this neighborhood where leashed dogs are welcome.

Rockville Centre Village Center

In search of sun and sand? Visit Rockville Centre’s Village Center neighborhood, about five miles from West Hempstead! You and Fido will love frolicking on the small but secluded sandy pockets on the shores of Smith Pond at Morgan Days Park! There’s tons of lush vegetation and trees, making this park seem far away from city life! It’s a pawpular spot for fishing, too. For another pawesome place to walk with your leashed pooch in the neighborhood, check out Veterans Park. This community park has a paved path that loops around open fields and a playground. Other furrific neighborhood parks where leashed dogs are welcome include Eldred Park and Village Green Park.

Merrick Rd/ Lincoln Ave

In search of a quiet park to visit with your furry friend? Check out Rockville Centre’s Merrick Rd/ Lincoln Ave neighborhood! Just about five miles from West Hempstead, this neighborhood is home to Mill River Complex Park, a well-maintained green space you will love visiting with your leashed pooch. You and your dog can get some exercise on the woofderful paved walkway that runs next to the beautiful Mill River! There is lots of grass and lush vegetation growing on the banks, so keep an eye out for waterfowl and wildlife! This park also has athletic fields, a playground and restrooms.
