Village Center

Village Center has a commercial district, schools, playgrounds, and some residential streets. There are sidewalks in the neighborhood where you can walk your leashed pup. When you want to give your furry friend some outdoor playtime with other pooches, head about 1.6 miles southeast to Bay Park, located on First Avenue. You'll find a  fenced dog run on the east side of this Rockaway facility. There are separate sections here for small and large dogs where your pup can romp freely. Each side has water stations and benches where owners can relax. Remember to pick up your special pal's waste.

Lakeview Ave/Ocean Ave

The neighborhood between Lakeview Avenue and Ocean Avenue is primarily a residential area that borders Tanglewood Preserve to the east. You'll be able to stroll down the sidewalk with your four-footed friend in this area. To get out in nature with your furry pal, head about 3.2 miles northeast to Hempstead Lake State Park. Go hiking or jogging on the pathway through the woods and fields here with your furry friend. Dogs are allowed in the section by South Pond, provided they're on a leash and under control. Remember to bring water and waste bags so that you can pick up any droppings.

Merrick Rd/Hempstead Ave

The neighborhood between Merrick Road and Hempstead Avenue is mainly a residential area with a small commercial district and a few public schools. You can walk your dog on the sidewalk here. When the weather keeps you from getting outside with your pup, head about three miles southwest to Fido Fitness Club. This climate controlled indoor dog park offers a way for your furry friend to safely socialize with other four-footed friends. To qualify for a day pass or annual membership, you'll need to fill out an application, provide proof of vaccinations, and let the staff evaluate your dog's behavior.

North Lynbrook

The hamlet of North Lynbrook is mostly a residential area with single-family homes. There are sidewalks here where you and your special pal can go for a stroll together. If you're looking for a furiffic place to get out with your pooch, head about ten miles northwest to Alley Pond Park off Union Turnpike. There are extensive trails in this spacious facility and an off-leash area for dogs. Let your pup run and play with other canines, or leash up and go for a hike together. Dogs need to be under control and up to date on vaccinations to use public parks. Remember to clean up any waste.

Scranton Ave/Broadway

The Scranton Ave/Broadway district includes residential streets, schools, and a medical facility. There are quiet sidewalk-lined roads here where you can take your pooch for a walk. For a special outing, take Fido about nine miles south and east to Nickerson Beach Park. There's an off-leash area located adjacent to the Fun Zone here. This facility has separate fenced areas for large and small dogs. Let your pooch play with other furry friends in this scenic setting. Make sure you bring water and some waste bags with you to clean up after your pup. Remember that dogs are not permitted on the beach.
