The neighborhood between Lakeview Avenue and Ocean Avenue is primarily a residential area that borders Tanglewood Preserve to the east. You'll be able to stroll down the sidewalk with your four-footed friend in this area. To get out in nature with your furry pal, head about 3.2 miles northeast to Hempstead Lake State Park. Go hiking or jogging on the pathway through the woods and fields here with your furry friend. Dogs are allowed in the section by South Pond, provided they're on a leash and under control. Remember to bring water and waste bags so that you can pick up any droppings.

The neighborhood between Merrick Road and Hempstead Avenue is mainly a residential area with a small commercial district and a few public schools. You can walk your dog on the sidewalk here. When the weather keeps you from getting outside with your pup, head about three miles southwest to Fido Fitness Club. This climate controlled indoor dog park offers a way for your furry friend to safely socialize with other four-footed friends. The Scranton Ave/Broadway district includes residential streets, schools, and a medical facility. There are quiet sidewalk-lined roads here where you can take your pooch for a walk. For a special outing, take Fido about nine miles south and east to Nickerson Beach Park. There's an off-leash area located adjacent to the Fun Zone here. This facility has separate fenced areas for large and small dogs. Let your pooch play with other furry friends in this scenic setting. Make sure you bring water and some waste bags with you to clean up after your pup. Remember that dogs are not permitted on the beach.
