The village of Lawrence, located in Nassau County, is just north of Atlantic Beach. This community includes populous neighborhoods and some wetlands. If you need a veterinarian for your pup, you'll find one just a few miles west of here, in Inwood.

Let your pal enjoy some off-leash play at the Freeway Dog Run, located at Beach 84th Street off Rockaway Freeway. This 2-acre fenced area has benches and some dog agility equipment. Dogs need to be vaccinated and licensed, and you're responsible for picking up your pet's waste.

Another dog run where you can let Fido get some exercise is the Forest Park Dog Run, located about 10.4 miles to the northwest. This facility has some shade structures, benches, and agility equipment. Run your furry pal through his paces or let him romp with other canines here. Bring water and waste bags with you.

You and your four-footed friend can go exploring in Spring Creek Park off the Belt Parkway in Howard Beach, There are hiking trails here that you and your special pal can use to get some fresh air and exercise. Walk along the shore of North Jamaica Bay and enjoy the scenery. Dogs on a leash up to six feet long can join you in the facility.

Lawrence is an affluent village with private residences, a country club, and a public school. There are sidewalks along some of the neighborhood streets where you can take your pup for a walk here. If you're looking for a change of pace, head three to four miles southwest of town to Rockaway Beach. Stroll down the boardwalk or wander on the sand with your four-footed friend. Dogs are permitted to join you in this facility during the off-season. Make sure you keep your fur baby on a leash and under control when you visit. Bring waste bags to clean up any waste.

Cedarhurst is a small village located just north of Lawrence. There are single-family homes, apartment buildings, and some small businesses in this area. You'll be able to take a daily walk around the block here. To treat your canine companion to some off-leash exercise, take him to Bay Park in East Rockaway. This area features a dog run where you can let your pooch romp with other four-footed friends. There are separate sections for large and small dogs at the facility. You'll find the dog run near the ball fields at the east side of the park. Make sure you clean up after your special pal.

The Business District of Woodmere includes local businesses, some apartment buildings, and a few streets with single-family homes. There are streets with sidewalks just a few blocks from downtown where you and Fido can take a stroll together. On the corner of Woodmere Boulevard and Railroad Avenue, you'll find an indoor dog park. Rain or shine, you can let your pal socialize with other canine companions at Fido Fitness Club. This 8,000 square foot playground has floors made of compressed foam rubber for your pal's comfort. Dogs must pass an assessment and be current on vaccinations to use this facility. Day passes and annual memberships are available.

The town of Inwood, on the head of Jamaica Bay, is a mixed commercial and residential community. There are sidewalks here where you and Spot can take a daily jaunt. To enjoy some fresh air with your furry friend, head to Bayswater Point State Park. This 12-acre facility has hiking trails along a peninsula in the Mott Basin. Walk by the water with your special pal here. Dogs can accompany you here, provided that they're on a leash and under your control. Make sure to bring water and some waste bags with you so that you can clean up after your pup.
