Island Park Village Center
The Village Center of Island Park may be bustling, but it is also proud home to some lovely parks and greenspace. In the north end of town, along Waterford Road, you can find the Mayor Landgraf Playground. This family friendly park welcomes leashed dogs to join in on the fun, as long as they get picked up after. The park features playgrounds, and grassy areas perfect for playing. There are also benches and a gazebo where you can kick back and relax. When your stomachs are growling, head over to the Gran Paradiso Restaurant. Here you can enjoy some classic, homemade pasta next to your best pal on their dog friendly, outdoor patio.

Barnum Island
In the Barnum Island neighborhood of Island Park, you can find another wonderful park to enjoy with your pooch, the Shell Creek Park. This waterfront park can be found where the California Canal splits off from Shell Creek. From here, enjoy relaxing on one of the picnic tables or benches, with views of the water and Long Island as a backdrop. The park features athletic fields, restrooms, fishing, and large grassy areas to sniff and play on. If you get hungry, there are concession stands in this park that are open in season. Dogs are welcome of course, as long as they stay leashed. Don’t forget the waste bags and dog treats!

Oceanside
The neighboring town of Oceanside has plenty to offer a playful pup! Less than a 10 minute drive from Island Park, on Mahlon Brower Drive, you can find the furtastic Oceanside Park. This park has something in it for everyone, including the family dog! Here you can find all kinds of athletic fields and play equipment, as well as multi-purpose fields that your pup can romp around on while there are no games in play. Also in this neighborhood, just across the creek, is the Marine Nature Study Area. This 52 acre preserve has trails and boardwalks through the salt marshes, and plenty of wildlife watching opportunities. Features include restrooms and information kiosks. Leashed dogs are welcome in both of these areas, as long as they leave only paw prints!

Lido Blvd
If you happen to be in the Lido Blvd neighborhood on Long Island, you’re in for a treat! It’s here that you can find the popular Nickerson Beach Park. This park features a dog run with separate fenced off areas, one for large breeds and another for the little guys to play off-leash. Here your doggo can run, play and meet furry friends in the salty breeze. There are endangered birds and grasses in the surrounding areas, so dogs are not permitted on the beach or in the dunes. Off to the side of the parking lot, there is a natural dog walking area with paths created where you can bring your leashed pupper. Make sure to follow the leave no trace principles, and help keep this park clean for everyone to enjoy.
East Rockaway Village Center
Just north of Island Park sits the East Rockaway Village Center, and a great place to bring your dog for some playtime. It’s in this neighborhood, just a 15 minute drive from Island Park, that you can find the Bay Park Dog Park. This well maintained dog park has two separate fenced off areas, with turf to run a play on in glorious off-leash freedom. There is drinking water, doggy waste bags, and even toys at this dog park, so all you need to bring is your playful pup! For some more space to explore, you and your doggo can take a walk around Bay Park. This scenic waterfront park is 96 acres of athletic fields and walking paths. Dogs need to stay leashed when they’re not within the fenced off dog park.
