Dog Walking in Hershey

Hershey, Pennsylvania is located just east the state’s capital, Harrisburg. When you think of the name “Hershey,” you might think of chocolate, and you wouldn’t be wrong! This city is home to Hersheypark, a chocolate themed amusement park, and Hershey World, a park and museum, of sorts. And while all of that will be fun for you and your human friends, everyone knows that chocolate isn’t good for dogs, so it’s probably best your canine companion stay away from these places.

Hershey does have a couple of dog-friendly restaurants, but if you’re looking to have some serious fun with your dog, considering visiting a nearby city. Within a twenty-mile radius of Hershey, there’s plenty to do with your pooch. There are several walking trails, a few dog parks, and many more restaurants where your dog can join you for a meal that’ll make you say “Bone Appetit!”

Hershey does, however, have several different veterinarian clinics, including one that’s open twenty-four hours to handle any emergencies your dog might have. If you’re looking for somewhere with easy access to dog-friendly activities, check out Hershey, Pennsylvania!

If you’re looking for a delicious place to dine with your dapper dog, make sure to check out The Chocolate Avenue Grill – despite the name, the restaurant is dog-friendly! The Chocolate Avenue Grill serves up classic American dishes, including tasty Philly hoagies, which are a Pennsylvania classic. The restaurant has a large patio with fifteen tables, and all of them are dog-friendly. Your dog must stay on his leash at all times, and good behavior is required. Can you resist the temptation to give Fido just one bite? You probably won’t want to share! The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday.

The access point is located about twenty minutes southeast of Hershey. At 14.5 miles long, this trail is sure to tire out even the most energetic of dogs, even if you don’t walk the entire length. Your dog is allowed to join you on the trail, but he must stay on a leash at all times. Water is not provided, so you’ll want to bring some for you and your dog. You’ll also need to bring along waste disposal bags to clean up after your pooch.

About twenty miles west of Heshey is Mechanicburg’s Lower Allen Park, home to the locally famous Doggie Dugout! This dog park has plenty of room for your pooch to run around and burn off any pent-up energy he might have. This dog park provides water, toys, and waste disposal bags for your dog, and there’s also plenty of seating for pup parents! Doggie Dugout also has picnic tables if you want to bring a snack. Your dog can explore the rest of Lower Allen Park with you, but he’ll need to be on his leash once he leaves the designated dog park.
