Is your dog a mountaineer who loves the high altitude? If your pup has his head in the clouds, then he'll love the North Huntingdon neighborhoods. In the shadow of the Mount Nittany, there are tons of Fido-friendly options to explore the wilderness. Nittany Mountain Trail Rides offers hay rides, camping, and bonfires closer to the sky. Also in the neighborhood is the Indian Steps Trail network. The hike takes about 2 and half hours and is 4 miles long — perfect for a day outing with your four-legged best friend!

Does your dog like exploring old historic monuments? Then he'll love the parks in the West Hungtingdon, like Greenwood Furnace State Park. The 432-acre park has structures from the community that lived there from 1834 to 1904. There are also hiking trails, camping areas, and a six-acre lake. Another pawesome place to hike in West Huntingdon is the Thickhead Mountain. The hike takes about 3 hours and is 4.1 miles long. Heads up: the uphill hike is pretty steep, so make sure your dog can handle it -- otherwise, you might be carrying him up the mountain!

The Central Huntingdon neighborhoods can provide your doggo with the attuned lifestyle of suburban amenities and forestry exploration. Here, your first stop should be Blair Park, which has mountain biking, hiking, and picnic areas for your dog to traverse. Bring a tennis ball, because this park is great for a game for fetch! Also in Central Huntingdon is access to the 80-mile long Standing Stone Trail. You and your dog can conquer this Appalachian trail in parts. You can hike over the Juniata by accessing the Allegrippis Trail System, with options of 24 different trails all differing in difficulty, steepness, and views. A great way to maneuver the ridges is through the Thousand Steps: Standing Stone Trail. Standing Stone is a 3.5-mile out-and-back trail that will take around 3 hours for you and Fido to hike. Another beautiful place to explore with your doggos is the Trough Creek State Park. At Trough Creek, you can see avian wildlife like the Pileated Woodpecker and Wood-pewee.
