Abdera is a small town in the north of Pennsylvania. It lies along the Interstate 80 corridor, making it a thoroughfare town for many travelers. If you are visiting here, look no further than the Calico Creek Veterinary Clinic and the Animal Medical Center, located in the nearby town of Mill Hall, to care for all your pup’s health concerns, should the need arise.

For a great day with your fur-ever friend, head to Bald Eagle State Park, 7 miles west of Abdera in nearby Howard. There are 5900 acres waiting for you and Fido to get out and enjoy the fresh air. Take your pup for a hike on the many miles of trails which traverse fields and wetland areas. For some easy strolls, hop on the Skyline Drive Trail which runs for 2 miles, or the Butterfly Trail’s 1.5-mile hike through a butterfly conservation area. For those with a bit more zip in their step, the Lakeside Trail’s 2.9-mile hike offers a more rugged experience for you and your pawtastic pup! Other pup-friendly amenities include fishing, swimming, and boating. Don’t forget your pup will love the sledding hills in the winter.

Locally known as Cherry Run Games Land, this area is perfect to hike with your fur-ever friend. There are vacant logging roads which provide excellent walking terrain, and these trails run for over 10 miles past streams and creeks. Although this is a rugged area, the routes are rated as easy and perfect for all pup-abilities. Be sure to keep Fido on leash throughout these multi-use trails and bring water.

The Sinnemahoning Creek and the West Branch Susquehanna River converge here and are frequented by canoers and kayakers. Your pup will enjoy meandering along its many trails with you. Be sure to keep your fur-ever friend on a leash throughout this natural area. Taggart Park, which is the perfect location for a relaxing day with your fur-ever friend. This 1.75-acre area has beautiful open spaces to play with your pawtastic pup, and sports fields where Fido can run on an extended leash. Catch a game here. Or try Hanna Park with its 6.5-acres, sports courts and picnic pavilions. You can walk with Fido throughout the landscaped grounds with your pup on a leash. Restrooms and drinking fountains are available at both parks.

Along the way, you will find the Amphitheatre which offers summer concerts Sunday nights on its floating stage. This riverwalk is paved and perfectly designed for all pup’s fitness levels.
